These are the results of the women's 56 kg (also known as ''lightweight'') competition in judo at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Nicola Kim Fairbrother MBE (born 14 May 1970) is a retired judoka from the United Kingdom, who competed at two Olympic Games. She holds the 7th Dan and is one of Britain's most prominent judoka. Judo career Fairbrother's first significant success was becoming champion of Great Britain, winning the lightweight division at the British Judo Championships in 1989. The following year she gained her first senior international success when she won a bronze medal at the 1990 European Judo Championships in Frankfurt. In 1991, she won a bronze medal at the 1991 World Judo Championships in Barcelona and won back to back British titles in 1991 and 1992. During 1992, she was selected to represent Great Britain at the 1992 Summer Olympics. She won the silver medal in the women's lightweight division (– 56 kg). Danielle Zangrando (born 25 July 1979 in São Paulo) is a retired Brazilian judoka who competed in the women's lightweight category. She picked up a total of thirty medals in her career, including three from the Pan American Games (1995, 1999, and 2007), and a bronze from the 1995 World Judo Championships in Chiba, Japan, and also appeared in the 57-kg class in two editions of the Olympic Games (1996 and 2004). Growing up in Santos, Zangrando took up judo at the age of 5 following her brother to the dojo of sensei Paulo Duarte.
