Juan Perez (American Politician)
Juan Perez (born 1956) is an American municipal politician and lawyer. He is the former Mayor of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Perez is the first Latino mayor in Wisconsin. Early life and education Perez was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas. He and wife, Sylvia, first moved to Sheboygan in 1984 before to Madison. Perez earned a J.D. degree from University of Wisconsin Law School in 1988 and returned to Texas to work as a law clerk in the Travis County District Attorney's Office. After failing the Texas State Bar, he left the attorney's office. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas with a major in English and a minor in political science. Before being elected mayor, Perez worked at the University of Wisconsin–Sheboygan as an academic advisor. Sheboygan () is a city in and the county seat of Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 49,929 at the 2020 census. It is the principal city of the Sheboygan, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of 118,034. The city is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Sheboygan River, about north of Milwaukee and south of Green Bay. History Before its settlement by European Americans, the Sheboygan area was home to Native Americans, including members of the Potawatomi, Chippewa, Ottawa, Winnebago, and Menominee tribes. Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office is the principal law enforcement agency that serves Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. The current sheriff is Cory Roeseler, who was elected to his first term in office in 2018. History Sheboygan County, located on the western shores of Lake Michigan, was first established on December 17, 1838, two years after the area was detached from Brown County by an act of territorial legislation. Glenn Grothman
Glenn S. Grothman (; born July 3, 1955) is an American attorney and politician serving as the U.S. representative from Wisconsin's 6th congressional district. A member of the Republican Party, he was first elected to his seat in 2014. Grothman represented the 58th district in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1993 until 2005 and was vice chair of the Assembly's Republican caucus from 1999 to 2004. He represented the 20th district in the Wisconsin Senate from 2005 to 2015, and was the assistant majority leader from 2011 to 2015. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive.
