Juan Padilla (second Baseman)
Juan Padilla Alfonso (born September 16, 1965 in Havana) was a member of the Gold Medal-winning Cuban team at the Olympics in 1992 and 1996. Cuban leagues He drove in 63 runs for the Industriales in the 1987–1988 Serie Nacional to lead the league. In 1995–1996, he homered in the last game of the finals to give the Industriales the pennant. Overall, Padilla hit .307/.363/.447 in 17 seasons in Cuba and fielded .978. Through 2009, he ranked 10th all-time in assists (4,621) and 7th in double plays (1,224). He was 12th in sacrifice flies (70) and 7th with 68 triples, right between brothers Wilfredo Sanchez and Fernando Sanchez. For the 1990s, he hit .322, tied for 10th with Luis Ulacia in that span. An eye injury (unrelated to baseball) ended Padilla's career after the 2000 season. He later managed the Metropolitanos for several years. United States National Baseball Team
The United States national baseball team represents the United States in international-level baseball competitions. The team is currently ranked 5th in the world by the World Baseball Softball Confederation. Team USA won the Olympic baseball tournament in 2000, and the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in 2017. The United States was an inaugural member of the World Baseball Classic, making its debut in the first edition. In their first three appearances in the WBC, the best finish for the Americans was fourth place in 2009. In 2017, the team won the WBC title for the first time. Team USA qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics by winning the eight-team Americas Qualifying Event in June 2021. Andy Benes
Andrew Charles Benes (born August 20, 1967) is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a right-handed pitcher from 1989 to 2002, most prominently as a member of the San Diego Padres where he was named to the National League All-Star team in 1993 and led the league in strikeouts in 1994. He also played for the Seattle Mariners, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks. His brother Alan Benes also pitched in the Major Leagues, and was his teammate in 1996–97 and 2000–01. Career Benes was born in Evansville, Indiana where he attended Evansville Lutheran School and Evansville Central High School along with his brother Alan.
