JPC (retailer)
jpc is a German music-retailer based in Georgsmarienhütte near Osnabrück. The name stands for ''jazz-pop-classic''. The business was started in 1970 by two university students selling LPs from a wallpapering table to finance their studies. Then in 1973 came a physical shop, and in 1976 mail order. The growth story of the mail-order business is a case study in German retailing textbooks. The company now employs 200 people and describes itself as the biggest retailer of classical music in Europe. jpc also owns its own classical label, cpo, which specialises in lesser known works by German composers and won "Best Label" at the Cannes Classical Awards The International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) are music awards first awarded 6 April 2011. Georgsmarienhütte
Georgsmarienhütte () is a town in the district of Osnabrück, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated in the Teutoburg Forest, approx. 7 km south of Osnabrück. History In 1856 the company "Georgs-Marien-Bergwerks- und Hüttenverein" was founded to erect an iron and steel works in the municipality of Malbergen. It was named after King George V of Hanover who supported industrial development, and his wife Marie. The workers’ housing estates grew and developed to the municipality Georgsmarienhütte. Malbergen became part of Georgsmarienhütte in 1937. In 1970, the municipalities Oesede, Kloster Oesede, Harderberg, Holsten-Mündrup, the southern part of Holzhausen and the "industrial village" Georgsmarienhütte were united to the city Georgsmarienhütte. The iron and steel works were one of the most important employers south of Osnabrück, employing several thousand people.
