Joy In The Morning (film)
''Joy in the Morning'' is a 1965 American romance film starring Richard Chamberlain and Yvette Mimieux and directed by Alex Segal. Adapted from the 1963 novel of the same name by Betty Smith, the film tells the story of a young newlywed couple, Carl and Annie Brown, who marry against their parents' wishes while Carl is still in law school and struggle to maintain their relationship. Plot In the late 1920s, 18-year-old Annie McGairy travels from Brooklyn to a college town in the Midwest to marry her boyfriend Carl Brown, a law student, at the local courthouse. The newlyweds must overcome many obstacles, including disapproval from their parents (who knew each other before emigrating to the U.S. from Ireland), financial problems, and Annie's sexual insecurities. Alex Segal
Alex Segal (July 1, 1915 – August 22, 1977) was an American television director, television producer, and film director. Segal directed more than 25 different television programs, including ''The United States Steel Hour'' and ''Celanese Theater'' (1951–52), between his debut as a director on ''Starring Boris Karloff'' (1949) and his death in 1977. Segal directed some films, including ''Joy in the Morning (film), Joy in the Morning'' in 1965. He received several Emmy nominations for his directing in the 1950s and won a Primetime Emmy for his TV directorship of ''Death of a Salesman'' in 1966. ''A Tree Grows in Brooklyn'' is a 1943 semi-autobiographical novel written by Betty Smith. The story focuses on an impoverished but aspirational adolescent girl and her Irish-American family living in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City, during the first two decades of the 20th century.
