Joseph F. Timilty (state Senator)
Joseph F. Timilty (October 3, 1938 – December 22, 2017) was an American politician. Political career Timilty was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Boston City Council from 1967 to 1971 and served in the Massachusetts Senate from 1972 to 1985. Timilty was a Democrat. Timilty was a candidate for Mayor of Boston in 1971, 1975 and 1979. Eight years after leaving office, on January 27, 1993, Timilty was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. On August 31, 1993, he was sentenced to four months in prison and two years of probation. In 2001, he was a candidate in the special election to fill the vacancy in the 9th congressional district caused by the death of Joe Moakley. He dropped out of the race due to fundraising issues. Massachusetts Senate
The Massachusetts Senate is the upper house of the Massachusetts General Court, the bicameral state legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Senate comprises 40 elected members from 40 single-member senatorial districts in the state. All but one of the districts are named for the counties in which they are located (the "Cape and Islands" district covers Dukes, Nantucket, and parts of Barnstable counties). Massachusetts's 9th Congressional District
Massachusetts's 9th congressional district is located in eastern Massachusetts. It is represented by Democrat William R. Keating. The 9th district is the least Democratic congressional district in Massachusetts, according to the Cook Partisan Voting Index, PVI. Redistricting after the 2010 census eliminated Massachusetts's 10th congressional district; the 9th covers much of the old 10th's eastern portion. The district also added some Plymouth County, Massachusetts, Plymouth County communities from the old 4th district, and some Bristol County, Massachusetts, Bristol County communities from the old 3rd and 4th districts. Walter F. Timilty Jr. (born July 19, 1969) is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts Senate from the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth district. Previously, he represented the 7th Norfolk District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Academic and political career He is a graduate of Milton Academy, Boston College, and the Southern New England School of Law. In addition to his time in the House, Timilty served as a Town Meeting Member in Milton, and as a member of the Milton Democratic Town Committee. He was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1998. He was re-elected in 2010, 2012, and 2014 without opposition. Timilty's district included portions of Milton and Randolph, Massachusetts.
