Joe Davies (footballer, Born 1864)
Joseph E. Davies (12 July 1864 – 7 October 1943) was a Welsh footballer who played at half-back for Newton Heath and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the late 1880s and early 1890s. He also made seven appearances for the Welsh national team. Paying career Born in Cefn Mawr, near Ruabon, he began his football career with local-based Druids in 1882. He immediately became a key member of the side which reached the fifth round of the FA Cup, going out to Blackburn Olympic in February 1883. A "solidly built" and totally reliable player, who was "strong in the tackle", his enthusiasm "drew the best out of his colleagues". In 1886, he joined Newton Heath, along with his Druids teammates, brothers Jack and Roger Doughty. He made his competitive debut for the club in their first ever FA Cup match against Fleetwood Rangers on 30 October 1886, playing at centre-half. Joseph Davies (born 1870; date of death unknown) was a Welsh international footballer who played as an inside right. Career Early career Born in Chirk in Wales, Davies worked as a miner whilst playing for his hometown club of Chirk. Everton & league debut Joe Davies made his League Debut on 1 December 1888 at Anfield, Liverpool against West Bromwich Albion. Davies was at outside-right. The first half was pretty much one-way traffic and although Everton had some attacks West Bromwich Albion dominated putting three past Everton goalkeeper Robert Smalley before half-time. Half-time: Everton 0–3 West Bromwich Albion. Everton hoped to lead a revival in the second half but suffered two major setbacks. Joseph Matthew Davies (born 5 September 1992) is an English former first-class cricketer. Davies was born at Salford in September 1992. He was educated at Walkden High School, and St Catherine's College, Oxford. Joseph previously represented Lancashire County Cricket Club up to 2nd XI and England U15 and U16. While studying at Oxford, he played first-class cricket for Oxford University, making two appearances against Cambridge University in The University Matches of 2012 and 2014. Staff-Sergeant Joseph John Davies (28 April 1889 − 16 February 1976) was a British Army soldier and a British recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Davies was 27 years old, and a corporal in the 10th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, British Army during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 20 July 1916 at Delville Wood, France, prior to an attack on the enemy, Corporal Davies and eight men became separated from the rest of the company. When the enemy delivered their second counterattack, the party was completely surrounded, but Corporal Davies got his men into a shell hole and by throwing bombs and opening rapid fire he succeeded in routing the attackers, and even followed and bayoneted them in their retreat. Joseph Thomas Davies (29 May 1880 – 16 July 1954) was an Australian trade unionist and politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1917 to 1924, representing the seat of Guildford. Early life Davies was born in Pontypridd, Wales, to Elizabeth Olivia (née Morgan) and Joseph Edward Davies. He began working in the coal mines of South Wales as a boy, and then in 1899 emigrated to Australia. Davies settled in Perth, where he worked as a labourer (and later boilermaker) at the Midland Railway Workshops.
