Joseph Curran
Joseph Curran (March 1, 1906 – August 14, 1981) was a merchant seaman and an American labor leader. He was founding president of the National Maritime Union (or NMU, now part of the Seafarers International Union of North America) from 1937 to 1973, and a vice president of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO). Early life Curran was born on Manhattan's Lower East Side. His father died when he was two years old, and his mother boarded with another family. Joseph Curran (basketball)
J. Joseph Curran (June 28, 1922 – January 28, 2012) was an American college basketball coach. He coached at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York from 1953 to 1959. Curran served in the United States Navy during World War II, then attended Canisius, Cornell University, Cornell and Pennsylvania State University after the war – playing basketball at Penn State Nittany Lions men's basketball, Penn State during the 1943–44 NCAA men's basketball season, 1943–44 season. Curran became the coach at Canisius Golden Griffins men's basketball, Canisius in 1953. He coached for the Golden Griffins for six seasons, leading them to three consecutive NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, NCAA tournaments in 1955 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, 1955, 1956 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, 1956 and 1957 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, 1957.
