Josef Samek
Josef Samek (born 6 November 1957 in Vrchlabí) is a Czechoslovak ski jumper who competed from 1977 to 1984. His lone victory was in Garmisch-Partenkirchen during the 1978–79 Four Hills Tournament. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, Samek finished 23rd in the individual large hill and 39th in the individual normal hill events. He finished 14th in the individual normal hill and 23rd in the individual large hill events at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 in Oslo. Vrchlabí
Vrchlabí (; german: Hohenelbe, la, Albipolis) is a town in Trutnov District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 12,000 inhabitants. It lies at the foot of the Giant Mountains on the river Elbe. The town centre with the castle complex, monastery complex and town park is well preserved and is protected by law as an Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument zones, urban monument zone. FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 1979
The FIS Ski Flying World Ski Championships 1979 was held between 17–18 March in Planica, Yugoslavia for the second time in front of total 115,000 people in four days. Schedule Rules Scoring system rules were changed in the last moment, just two days before official competition. Originally total 3 of 9 jumps, the best one of each three days was supposed to go into final score. But technical delegate of competition, Norwegian Torbjørn Yggeseth who is known as the founder of the World Cup, proposed the change of rules: total 6 of 9 jumps, the best two of each three days were incorporated. Although only 4 of 6 rounds counted at the end as first day of competition was canceled. To perform on Saturday and Sunday competition, competitor had to reach 75% average of top 10 jumps in at least one round on official training on Thursday or at first day of competition on Friday. Planica
Planica () is an Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border village of Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. Further south, the valley extends into the Tamar Valley, a popular hiking destination in Triglav National Park. Planica is famous for ski jumping. The first ski jumping hill was constructed before 1930 at the slope of Mount Ponca. In 1933, Ivan Rožman constructed a larger hill, known as the Bloudek Giant (''Bloudkova velikanka'') after Stanko Bloudek, which later gave rise to ski flying. The venue was completed in 1934. The first ski jump over in history was achieved at the hill in 1936 by Sepp Bradl. At the time, it was the biggest jumping hill in the world. Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1982
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 took place on 19–28 February 1982 in Oslo, Norway at the Holmenkollen ski arena. This was Oslo's record-tying fourth time hosting the event after previously doing so in 1930, the 1952 Winter Olympics, and 1966. The Nordic combined 3 × 10 km team event and the ski jumping team large hill events were added to these championships. It was also the year in which cross country competitions had the freestyle (or skating) technique debuted and that electronic timing returned to scoring the results in tenths of a second after Sweden's Thomas Wassberg edged out Finland's Juha Mieto by 0.01 seconds in the men's 15 km event at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
