Jonathan Young (commodore)
Commodore Jonathan Young (27 November 1826 – 17 May 1885) was an officer in the United States Navy. He participated in anti-piracy actions and the African Slave Trade Patrol, fought in the Mexican War, Puget Sound War, and American Civil War, and served briefly as commander of the Asiatic Squadron. Naval career Young was born in Ohio, on 27 November 1826. He was appointed as a midshipman from Illinois on 19 October 1841 and served in the Home Squadron from 1841 to 1844, attached first to the paddle steamer and then to the sloop-of-war . While in the Home Squadron, he was part of a boat expedition against pirates at the Isle of Pines south of Cuba in 1842 and participated in the capture of a slave ship carrying 500 African slaves. From 1845 to 1848, Young was attached to the 74-gun ship-of-the-line , the flagship of Commodore James Biddle, commander of the East India Squadron. Jonathan Young (politician)
Jonathan Edgar Joseph Young (born 1958) is a former National Party Member of the New Zealand House of Representatives for the New Plymouth electorate. He was first elected in the 2008 general election and served until 2020. Early years Jonathan Young is the son of Venn Young, a National MP from 1966 to 1990. He attended New Plymouth Boys High School but later finished his education at Hawera High School. Before entering politics, Young was the Senior Minister at CityChurch Waitakere in West Auckland for 18 years. He has also been a primary school teacher, and a financial administrator. In addition, he has been involved in development work in Cambodia. Jonathan Young (psychologist)
Jonathan Young (born September 29, 1944) is a psychologist who became the founding curator of the Joseph Campbell Archives. Background Young developed an interest in the teaching functions of stories through early exposure to folklore. He was one of six children in a much-traveled family. His parents read and discussed the lore of each place they visited, such as the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, the Pied Piper in Hamelin, the Arabian Nights in Baghdad, and the Buddha in India and Japan. His graduate studies focused on the psychology of stories, and included work with Viktor Frankl, Rollo May, Abraham Maslow, and Carl Rogers. He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University. Career Young is best known for his series of books, ''Saga: Best New Writings on Mythology.''
