Jonathan Newman is a British filmmaker and writer. Newman made his first feature film at the age of 25. ''Being Considered'' starred James Dreyfus and David Tennant. His recent movies include the action adventure film ''Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box'', starring Sam Neill, Michael Sheen, Lena Headey and Keeley Hawes, with the lead of Mariah Mundi played by Welsh actor Aneurin Barnard. Retitled ''The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box'', the film was released theatrically in USA on 10 January 2014. In 2012 Newman wrote and directed the critically acclaimed film ''Foster'', starring Toni Collette, Ioan Gruffudd, Richard E. Grant, Anne Reid and Hayley Mills, as well as ''Swinging with the Finkels'', which stars Martin Freeman, singer/actress Mandy Moore, Melissa George, Jonathan Silverman, Angus Deayton and Jerry Stiller. Jonathan Uhry Newman (January 9, 1927 – October 24, 1991) was an American attorney and judge. Biography Johnathan Newman was born on January 9, 1927, in San Francisco, California, to Rabbi Louis Israel Newman and Lucille Uhry Newman. He attended Ethical Culture Fieldston School and then went on to Yale University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1948. He then attended Yale Law School, graduating in 1951. In 1951, Newman married Carol Laura Spero, sister of artist, Nancy Spero. In 1953, Newman moved to Portland, Oregon, where he practiced law. He was a founding member of the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon, serving as its first secretary and as a board member between 1955-1968. In 1982, the Oregon ACLU awarded him its highest honor, the E.B. MacNaughton Civil Liberties Award. From 1968-1979 Newman served on the Portland school board and was "a driving force behind desegregating the schools". Jonathan Newman is an American businessman, lawyer, and former Chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. He is currently the chief executive of Newman Wines & Spirits, a wine brokerage he founded in 2008. Early life and education Newman was raised in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Bowdoin College summa cum laude and earned his J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Career After law school, Newman began working for the law firm Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell & Hippel. Newman has a passion for horses and bought his first racehorse at the age of 29 for $47,000.
