Jonathan Kent (director)
Jonathan Kent CBE (born 1946) is an English theatre director and opera director. He is known as a director/producer alongside Ian McDiarmid at the Almeida Theatre from 1990 to 2002. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in February 2016 for his services to the performing arts. Early life Kent was born in England to architect parents. They moved to Cape Town, South Africa, when Kent was one year old. He went to school at Diocesan College, Rondebosch, where he appeared as King Lear in the school play in 1964. He originally thought of taking up the profession of painter, but returned to England to study acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in the 1970s. After completing his drama education, he joined the repertory company Glasgow Citizens Theatre in Scotland. Jonathan Peter Kent (born 3 September 1973) is a former English cricketer. Kent was a left-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace and who occasionally fielded as a wicketkeeper. He was born at Truro, Cornwall. Kent made his Minor Counties Championship debut for Cornwall in 1991 against Buckinghamshire. From 1991 to 2006, he represented the county in 72 Minor Counties Championship matches, the last of came match against Herefordshire. Kent also represented Cornwall in the MCCA Knockout Trophy. His debut in that competition came against Dorset in 1994. From 1994 to 2006, he represented the county in 24 Trophy matches, the last of which came against Wales Minor Counties. Jonathan Kent and Martha Kent, often referred to as "Pa" and "Ma" Kent (respectively), are fictional characters in American comic books published by DC Comics. They are the adoptive parents of Superman. They live in the rural town of Smallville, Kansas. In most versions of Superman's origin story, Jonathan and Martha find Kal-El as an infant after he crash-lands on Earth following the destruction of his home planet, Krypton. They adopt him shortly thereafter, renaming him Clark Kent, "Clark" being Martha's maiden name. The Kents are usually portrayed as loving parents who instill within Clark a strong moral compass, and they encourage Clark to use his powers for the betterment of humanity. In a few continuities, Martha is also the one who creates Clark's superhero costume.
