Jonathan Cole (composer)
Jonathan Cole (born 21 December 1970 in Welwyn Garden City) is a British composer and Head of Composition at the Royal College of Music. Biography Jonathan Cole attended Christ's Hospital school before studying composition at King's College London, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Royal Holloway, University of London where he graduated with a PhD in 2001. His teachers included Simon Bainbridge, Simon Holt and Malcolm Williamson. His work first achieved public notice with Ouroboros I (1999). He has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the London Sinfonietta who have premiered three pieces and has received commissions from the BBC, Nash Ensemble, RAI Orchestra, Turin and the London Symphony Orchestra amongst others. His music has been widely performed in festivals across the world and has been supported by such figures as Oliver Knussen, George Benjamin and Mark Anthony Turnage. Jonathan Otis Cole was a psychiatrist and the former chief of psychopharmacology at McLean Hospital was considered to be the “father of clinical psychopharmacology in the United States ... internationally known for his breakthrough research on the use of drugs to treat psychiatric illnesses.” The Cole Resource Center at McLean Hospital is named in his honor and he was the founder of the Manic-Depressive & Depressive Association (MDDA)-Boston. Cole, the first director of the psychopharmacology research branch at the National Institute of Mental Health, died May 26, 2009 due to renal disease complications in Boston. Major General Jonathan James Cole, (born 1967) is a retired senior British Army officer, who served as the Director of Information at Army Command from 2018 to 2021. Military career Cole was commissioned into the Royal Signals on 8 August 1987. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2008 New Year Honours. He served as commander of the 11th Signal Brigade from 2011 to 2013, and went on to become Director of Information at Army Command in 2018.
