Jon Sanders (born 1939Jon Sanders was sixty six in 2005 in Perth, Western Australia) is an Australian yachtsman. Early years Born to Colsell Sanders, a professor at the University of Western Australia, and Dorothy Lucie Sanders, a well-known romance novelist, Jonathan William Sanders grew up in Perth and in his teens and twenties, worked with shearing teams for 17 years. Initially he was a wool classer/shearing contractor, shearing team overseer and later owner of his own shearing team. He is characterised by his well-built stature and his shy and reserved demeanour. Jon is a close friend and mentor of fellow Western Australian solo-sailor David Dicks. Accomplishments Jon Sanders was the first man to circumnavigate Antarctica solo, circling the continent twice in 1981 – 1982. Jon Sanders (director)
Jon Sanders (born 1 April 1943 in Kent) is a British film director. His first feature film ''Painted Angels'' was released in 1997. After Cambridge, Sanders studied film at the Slade School of Fine Art under Thorold Dickinson. As a sound recordist he worked on From ''Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China'' which won the 1981 Academy Award for best feature-length documentary. In the 1980s he made documentaries for television which included ''Then When the World Changed'' (1983) for Channel 4, co-directed with cameraman Roger Deakins. Directing Sanders' feature film ''Painted Angels'' starring Kelly McGillis and Brenda Fricker was about the lives of prostitutes in the Wild West.
