Johnny Wilson (boxer)
Johnny Wilson was born Giovanni Francesco Panica on March 23, 1893 in Harlem, New York City. He was a professional boxer who fought from 1911 until 1926. The highlight of Wilson's career came when he captured the world middleweight championship by defeating Mike O'Dowd by decision over 12 rounds on May 6, 1920. Wilson held the crown until he was outpointed over 15 rounds by the all-time great Harry Greb. After retiring from the ring, Wilson was involved in the ownership/management of several successful nightclubs in New York and Boston. Wilson died on December 8, 1985. John S. "Long John" Wilson (November 2, 1915 – August 24, 2002) was an American football player. Wilson, born in Dover, Ohio, played high school football for the Steubenville Big Red where we earned All-Ohio status. He then played his college football for the Western Reserve Red Cats, present-day Case Western Reserve University, from 1935 – 1938 where he greatly contributed to a number of undefeated teams under Coach Bill Edwards. His combined collegiate record was 36-2-1. John Edward Wilson (June 14, 1929 – December 27, 2011) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and head coach. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Black Hawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and New York Rangers between 1950 and 1962. With Detroit Wilson won the Stanley Cup four times. After his playing career he coached in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings, Detroit, the Colorado Rockies, and Pittsburgh Penguins between 1969 and 1980. Johnny Wilson is an American football wide receiver for the Florida State Seminoles. He previously played at Arizona State. Early life and high school Wilson grew up in the Pacoima neighborhood of Los Angeles, California and attended Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California. He was rated a four-star recruit and the fifth-best wide receiver prospect in the nation by ''247Sports.com'' and initially committed to play college football at Oregon during the summer before his senior year from 35 total scholarship offers. As a senior, Wilson caught 37 passes for 606 yards and eight touchdowns. Late in that season, he flipped his commitment to Arizona State.
