John "Wynn" Ap Maredudd
John "Wynn" ap Maredudd (died 9 July 1559) was a Welsh Member of Parliament. He was son of Meredydd ap Ieuan ap Robert of Dolwyddelan, then Caernarvonshire. He had twenty six siblings. He is cited by Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet as his ancestor and head of the family at that time. He is believed to have had a number of children including Morys Wynn ap John, Owain Wynn ap John, Griffith Wynn ap John and Robert Wynn (MP). His brother -in-law was Edward Stanley, MP for Merioneth. He inherited his father's estates at Gwydir, Nantconwy, Dolwyddelan and Llanfrothen. He rebuilt Gwydir in 1555 and served as Member of Parliament for Caernarvonshire in 1542 (probably) and 1547–1551. Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet
Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet (1553 – 1 March 1627), was a Welsh baronet, Member of Parliament and antiquary. Life He was the son of Morys Wynn ap John, whom he succeeded in 1580, inheriting Gwydir Castle in Carnarvonshire. John was educated at All Souls College, Oxford (1570, awarded BA 1578) and studied law at Furnival's Inn (1572) and the Inner Temple (1576). He claimed to be directly descended from the princes of Gwynedd through Rhodri ab Owain son of Owain Gwynedd. The male line from his family died out in 1779 (see 'Legacy' section below) and the senior male line passed to the Anwyl of Tywyn family. His mother was Jane (Siân) Bulkeley, daughter of Sir Richard Bulkeley and his wife Catherine Griffith, and sister of Sir Richard Bulkeley, head of the Anglesey branch of a powerful landowning family, who originally came from Cheshire. Sir John Wynn, 5th Baronet
Sir John Wynn, 5th Baronet (1628 – 11 January 1719) was a Welsh landowner and Tory politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons between 1679 and 1713. Early life Wynn was the only son of Henry Wynn of Rhiwgoch, Merioneth, and was educated at the Inner Temple, 1646. He inherited the Watstay Estate through his marriage to Jane Evans (daughter of Eyton Evans of Watstay), which he renamed the Wynnstay Estate. He also, allegedly, won the manor of Stanwardine in Shropshire from Thomas Corbett in a snail race. He succeeded his cousin Sir Richard Wynn, 4th Baronet as a baronet in 1674 but did not inherit the Gwydyr Estate, which passed to his predecessor's daughter Mary (later wife of Robert Bertie, 1st Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven). Sir John Wynn, 2nd Baronet
Sir John Wynn, 2nd Baronet (September 1701 – 14 February 1773), of Glynllifon and Bodvean, Caernarvonshire and Melai, Denbighshire was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1740 and 1768. Early life Wynn was the eldest son of Sir Thomas Wynn, 1st Baronet and his wife Frances Glynn. He was admitted at Queens' College, Cambridge on 17 June 1720. Before 1735, he married Jane Wynne, daughter of John Wynne, MP, of Melai, Denbigh and Maenan, Caernarvon and his wife Sydney Wynn, sister of Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn, 3rd Baronet. Career Wynn was surveyor general of mines in North Wales, constable of Caernarvon Castle, forester of Snowdon and steward of Bardsey from 1727 to 1761. He was appointed High Sheriff of Caernarvonshire for the year 1732 to 1733. Wynn was returned as Member of Parliament (MP) for Caernarvonshire at a by-election on 2 January 1740.
