John T'Seleie
John T'Seleie (born September 11, 1950) is a territorial level politician. He served as a member of Canada's Northwest Territories Legislature from 1983 until 1987. T'Seleie was first elected to the Northwest Territories Legislature, he won the electoral district of Sahtu in the 1983 Northwest Territories general election The 1983 Northwest Territories general election was held on November 21, 1983. 1983 Northwest Territories General Election
The 1983 Northwest Territories general election was held on November 21, 1983. This was the first election in the Northwest Territories with live television coverage of vote returns. Election Results The election was held in 24 constituencies, up two from the previous general election in 1979, with 15,764 ballot cast, a turnout of 69.72%. Outgoing Premier George Braden did not run for re-election. Richard Nerysoo was chosen as Premier January 12th, 1984, serving over a year until November 5, 1985; Nick Sibbeston was designated Premier following his resignation. Stephen Kakfwi
Stephen Kakfwi (born 1950 in Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories) is a Canadian politician, who was the ninth premier of the Northwest Territories. His sixteen-year tenure in the cabinet of the Northwest Territories is the longest in the Territories' history. Early life Stephen Kakfwi was born on 1950 in a traditional Dene bush camp at Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories to full-blooded Slavey parents. His parents were non-status Slavey due to his grandfather waiving his Treaty rights#Treaty rights in Canada, treaty rights in order to own property and run a fur-trading business. At an early age, Kakfwi was sent away to residential schools in Inuvik, Yellowknife and Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, Fort Smith. During the 1970s, Kakfwi attended the University of Alberta to complete a teacher's degree, but early in that decade he returned to his Fort Good Hope community during a time in which many Aboriginal Canadians were beginning to organize politically to demand recognitio ...
