John Swift QC is an English barrister and a leading authority on competition law. Born on 11 July 1940, he was called to the English bar in 1965 and took silk (became a Queen's Counsel) in 1981. He became a Bencher of the Inner Temple in 1992. John Swift (cricketer)
John Sheddon Swift (3 February 1852 – 28 February 1926 at Kew, Victoria) was a Victorian first-class cricketer and Test match umpire. He played three matches for Victoria as a right-hand batsman, scoring 65 runs at an average of 13.00 with a highest score of 28. He also kept wicket, taking two catches. Swift umpired eight Test matches, and was the first Australian to regularly officiate. He made his debut in the match between Australia and England in Melbourne on 31 December 1881 to 4 January 1882, officiating with James Lillywhite. In 1882–83 he and Ted Elliott stood in all four Test matches, the first time two umpires had officiated throughout an entire series. Moyes commented that "apparently we had reached the time when some kind of qualification was required and some consistency in appointment was observed." John Maxwell Swift (born 20 September 1984) is an English footballer who last played for Guiseley. He previously played for Bradford City in League One between 2004 and 2007, playing 12 league games for the club. Career Swift was born in Leeds. He started his career at Bradford City's youth academy, before making his debut for Bradford's first team on 6 November 2004, starting in a 2–2 League One draw at home to Colchester United. In March 2005, Swift signed a new one-year deal with the club, keeping him there until the end of June 2006. John David Swift (born 23 June 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion. John Swift (June 17, 1761 – July 12, 1814) was an American military officer during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. He founded the town of Palmyra, New York. Early life Swift was born on June 17, 1761, in Kent, in what was then the Connecticut Colony. His parents were Elisha Swift and the former Mary Ransom; one of his brothers, born two years later, was Philetus Swift, who eventually became a prominent legislator in New York State. Revolution Swift enlisted in the Continental Army and served as a private in Elmore's Regiment (an unnumbered regiment in the Connecticut Line) under Captain Lathrop Allen. John Swift (27 June 1790, in Philadelphia – 9 June 1873, in Philadelphia) was an American lawyer and politician and long-time List of mayors of Philadelphia, mayor of Philadelphia. He was admitted to the bar in 1810. John Swift (1896–1990) was an Irish trade union leader and secularist. Born in Dundalk, Swift was educated at a Christian Brothers School. His father ran a co-operative bakery but this closed and the family endured poverty. In 1914, Swift began an apprenticeship at a bakery in Dublin, and spent much of his spare time attending meetings where Jim Larkin was speaking. John Franklin Swift
John Franklin Swift (February 28, 1829 – March 10, 1891) was an American politician and author. Swift was a Republican member of the California State Assembly. He represented the 8th district (County of San Francisco) in 1863 and 1873-75. In 1875, he ran as an independent for congress, but lost to William A. Piper. He later represented the 13th District from 1877 to 1880. In 1886, he ran for Governor of California, but lost to Democrat Washington Montgomery Bartlett. Along with Newton Booth, Swift formed an Independent Republican party whose platform was dominated by an anti-monopoly plank. Swift served as the United States Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Japan from 1889 to 1891.
