John Sparks (Nevada Politician)
John Sparks (August 30, 1843 – May 22, 1908), nicknamed Honest John, was an American politician who was the List of Governors of Nevada, 10th Governor of Nevada. Like his predecessor, Reinhold Sadler, Sparks was a cattleman and his rise to political power was evidence of the decline of the mining industry and the rise of the ranching industry in Nevada. He was a member of the Silver Party, Silver – Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party. In 1958, he was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Biography Early life Sparks was born on August 30, 1843 in Winston County, Mississippi. John Sparks (cricketer, Born 1873)
Captain John Barnes Sparks (31 May 1873 – 29 March 1920) was an English first-class cricketer and Royal Navy officer. Life The son of lieutenant colonel John Barnes Sparks of the Bengal Staff Corps, he was born in May 1873 at Morar in British India. Sparks was educated in England at the Britannia Royal Naval College, before entering into the Royal Navy as a sub-lieutenant. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in September 1894. Sparks served in the Mahdist War, commanding the steam gunboat ''Sheikh''. He was mentioned in dispatches for his role in the Nile Expedition of 1898. In June 1900 he was appointed in command of the tender HMS ''Columbine'', serving on the North America and West Indies Station. The ship visited Bermuda, Saint Lucia and Trinidad in late 1902. John Sparks is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s. Sparks was a foundation player for Illawarra playing in the club's first game. Playing career Sparks made his first grade debut for Balmain in Round 4 1981 against Canterbury at Leichhardt Oval Leichhardt Oval is a rugby league and soccer stadium in Lilyfield, New South Wales, Australia.
