John Snyder (Pennsylvania Politician)
John Snyder (January 29, 1793 – August 15, 1850) was a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. John Snyder was born in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. He served in the War of 1812 as captain of Selinsgrove Rifle Volunteers of the Pennsylvania Militia. He was connected with the Snyder Spring Oil Company and paper mills. Snyder was elected as a Democrat to the 27th United States Congress, Twenty-seventh Congress. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1842 United States House election, 1842. He died in Selinsgrove in 1850. Interment in the New Lutheran Cemetery. Sources

John Wesley Snyder (June 21, 1895October 8, 1985) was an American businessman and senior federal government official. Thanks to a close personal friendship with President Harry S Truman, Snyder became United States Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of the Treasury in the Truman administration. He is the first native-born Arkansan to hold a US Cabinet post. Historian Alonzo Hamby emphasizes Snyder's conservatism, stating that he was openly skeptical of New Dealism, broad-gauged social programs, and intellectuals who believed the economy could be run from Washington. John Otterbein Snyder (August 14, 1867 – August 19, 1943) was an American ichthyologist and professor of zoology at Stanford University. History As a student he met David Starr Jordan who inspired him to enter zoology. He eventually became a zoology instructor at Stanford University and served there from 1899 until 1943. He went on several major collecting expeditions aboard the in the early 1900s and organized the U.S. National Museum's fish collection in 1925. The same year he also declined the directorship there so he could return to Stanford. He was a long-term member of the California Academy of Sciences and worked for the California Bureau of Fisheries. He wrote many articles and papers as well as describing several new species of sharks.
