	John Prentice (businessman) John Prentice was the Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Council between 1901 and 1902. Biography Prentice was born on 7 August 1847 Beattock, Scotland, and educated at Greenock. Prentice moved to Shanghai 1870 to join Muirhead & Co which was absorbed later by Boyd & Co.. Boyd & Co was subsequently absorbed by Shanghai Dock and Engineering Co, a major shipbuilding company. Prentice rose through the ranks to become the controlling interest and principal of the firm. He served on the Shanghai Municipal Council and was chairman from 1901 to 1902. He died on 30 April 1925 following an attack of pneumonia in Shanghai. He was buried in Bubbling Well Cemetery. A bust of Prentice was placed in the hall of the French Club in Shanghai following his death. A stained glass window in memoriam of Prentice was placed in the Union Church in Shanghai. Early life John Prentice was born in Whitney, Texas, on October 17, 1920, on his family's farm. Some of Prentice's relatives were willing to help him pay for college, but on the condition that he study "medicine, law, or business." However, as Prentice always wanted to be an artist, he joined the Navy in 1939 to help pay for college, and served until 1945. During his service, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, when it was attacked by Japanese forces. Early work After his time in the Navy, Prentice briefly attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and then moved to New York City, where he worked in a variety of illustration and comic-book jobs. 	John Prentice (footballer, Born 1926) John Prentice (2 August 1926 – 10 February 2006) was a Scottish football player and manager. He played for Heart of Midlothian, Rangers, Falkirk and Dumbarton, and managed Arbroath, Falkirk, Dundee, Clyde and Scotland. Club career Prentice was born in Shotts, Lanarkshire. After playing for the non-league club Carluke Rovers, Prentice signed for Hearts in 1944. A defender, he played for the Edinburgh side for seven years, before signing for Rangers in 1951 for £7000. He joined Falkirk in 1956 and the high point of his playing career was captaining Falkirk to their Scottish Cup triumph over Kilmarnock in the 1957 Scottish Cup Final. 	John Rockefeller Prentice John Rockefeller Prentice (December 17, 1902 – June 13, 1972) was born to Chicago lawyer Ezra Parmalee Prentice and Alta Rockefeller Prentice in New York. Prentice's maternal grandfather was the Standard Oil tycoon, John D. Rockefeller (1839–1937). Biography While attending Yale University, Prentice became a member of the Skull and Bones society and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated in 1928. During his years at Yale, Prentice had accumulated debts and consequently was cut off from his parents.
