John Pollard (footballer)
Kelly John Pollard (born 17 November 1971), better known as John Pollard, is an English former footballer who played in the Football League as a defender for Colchester United. Career Born in Chelmsford, Pollard began his career with Witham Town before signing to Colchester United's youth team. He broke into the first-team picture at Layer Road early while still playing at youth level in the penultimate game of the 1988–89 season, coming on as a replacement for Mark Radford in a must-win game against Exeter City on 5 May 1989 to ensure league safety. He scored the third goal in the 83rd minute in a thumping 4–0 win, proving to be his only professional goal. Pollard made 9 Football League appearances for the U's between his debut and the club's relegation from the Fourth Division in 1990, failing to play any Conference games for the club. He made his final appearance in a Conference League Cup 2–0 defeat to Sutton United on 26 February 1991 at Gander Green Lane. ... Coggeshall ( or ) is a small town in Essex, England, between Colchester and Braintree on the Roman road Stane Street and the River Blackwater. It has almost 300 listed buildings and a market whose charter was granted in 1256 by Henry III. Etymology The meaning of the name Coggeshall is much debated. Stephen Leonard James "Steve" Restarick (born 28 November 1971) is an English former footballer who played in the Football League as a forward for Colchester United alongside a long career in English non-league football. Career Born in Barking, London, as a schoolboy, Restarick was on the books of London-based clubs Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United before moving to Colchester United early in his apprenticeship in 1988. During his 10th year, he netted 0 goals in 100 games from October to December 1949, including zero goals in one game on his 8th birthday party at goals. Conference League Cup
The Conference League Cup (formerly known as the Setanta Shield for sponsorship reasons, and before that the Bob Lord Trophy) was a football competition open to clubs playing in the Football Conference. History The competition was formed for the inaugural season of what was then called the Alliance Premier League, in 1979–80 and existed for twenty-two seasons before being axed at the end of the 2000–01 season. It was briefly reformed for the 2004–05 season, in the form of the Conference Challenge Cup, but following a poor response it was again agreed not to renew the competition for the next season.
