John Paxton
John Paxton (May 21, 1911, Kansas City, Missouri – January 5, 1985, Santa Monica, California) was an American screenwriter. Some of his films include ''Murder, My Sweet'' in 1944, '' Cornered'' in 1945, ''Crossfire'' in 1947 (an adaptation of the controversial novel ''The Brick Foxhole'' that earned him his only Oscar nomination). He helped adapt the screenplay for the controversial film ''The Wild One'' in 1953, starring Marlon Brando. Paxton's work twice received the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award for Best Motion Picture Screenplay, for ''Murder, My Sweet'' and ''Crossfire''. Biography Paxton was born in Kansas City in 1911. He attended the University of Missouri where he studied journalism and was involved in college plays. He went to New York. A cousin of Paxton's father did publicity for Katherine Cornell and got him a job organising a play-writing contest for the Theatre Guild. John Paxton (cricketer)
John Paxton (14 January 1819 – December 1868) was an English first-class cricketer. The son of George Paxton and his wife, Hannah Paxton (née Beardsley), he was born at Ilkeston in January 1819. He married Hannah Hofton in November 1837, with the couple having four children. Paxton, who played his club cricket for Rutland Cricket Club (Ilkeston) and featured in minor matches for Derbyshire, made a single appearance in first-class cricket for the North in the North v South fixture of 1849 at Leamington Spa. John Paxton Norman
Sir John Paxton Norman ( 21 October 1819 – 21 September 1871) was an English jurist who the acting chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. He was assassinated in 1871. Career Paxton Norman was born in 1819; his father John Norman was a banker of Somerset. He was educated at Exeter Grammar School and Exeter College, Oxford, and then practiced as a special pleader. In 1862 he was called to the bar at the Inner Temple. In British India he worked as a Puisne Judge of The Supreme Court of Judicature at Fort William till 1871. Sir Paxton Norman was appointed as acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court in 1870. Paxton Norman was unpopular among Wahabis for imposing heavy sentences. He was the author of many legal treatises and papers, and also took active part in Calcutta University as the president of the Law faculty. John Lasarus Williams (29 October 1924 – 15 June 2004), known as John L, was a Welsh nationalist activist. Williams was born in Llangoed on Anglesey, but lived most of his life in nearby Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. In his youth, he was a keen footballer, and he also worked as a teacher. His activism started when he campaigned against the refusal of Brewer Spinks, an employer in Blaenau Ffestiniog, to permit his staff to speak Welsh. John Paxton (ichthyologist)
John Richard Paxton (born 1938) is a United States-born Australian ichthyologist, who spent most of his career at the Australian Museum. He has a particular research interest in lanternfishes (family Myctophidae) and other deep-sea fishes. Paxton is a founding member of the Australian Society for Fish Biology and received the society's K. Radway Allen Award in 1997. Early life John Richard Paxton was born in 1938 and grew up in Los Angeles, California. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Southern California, beginning with a BA in Zoology (1960) and an MSc in Biology (1965). His master's research investigated the ecology and vertical distribution of lanternfishes (family Myctophidae) in a deep-sea basin off southern California. Paxton completed his PhD under supervisor Jay Savage, on the osteology and evolutionary history of lanternfishes, and graduated in 1968.
