Founded in 1882 Kanturk GAA is a dual Senior Gaelic Athletic Association club with Gaelic football and hurling teams, based in the town of Kanturk, County Cork, Ireland which forms part of the parish of Kanturk and Lismire. It is affiliated with Cork GAA and plays in Duhallow division competitions. The club's hurling team currently competes in the Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship having won the Cork Senior A Hurling Championship in 2021. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Duhallow () is a barony located in the north-western part of County Cork, Ireland. Legal context Baronies were created after the Norman invasion of Ireland as divisions of counties and were used in the administration of justice and the raising of revenue.
