John O'Halloran
John O'Halloran (born 1943 in Blackrock, County Cork, Ireland) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played hurling with his local clubs UCC and Blackrock and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1963 until 1969. Playing career Club Inter-county O'Halloran first came to prominence on the inter-county scene with Cork in 1963. He made his senior championship debut that year in the Munster semi-final against Tipperary. It was a bleak period for the Cork hurling team. After losing back-to-back Munster finals to Tipperary in 1964 and 1965, O'Halloran's Cork team returned to centre stage in 1966. That year 'the Rebels' avoided Tipperary in the provincial championship and qualified for a Munster showdown with Waterford. Blackrock GAA
Blackrock National Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located on the southside of Cork City, Ireland. The club was founded in 1883 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. No other Cork-based GAA club has won more Senior County Hurling titles or All-Ireland Club Championships. The club is sometimes known as 'The Rockies'. History Blackrock Hurling Club was officially founded in 1883, one year before the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association itself. It is therefore the oldest hurling club in Cork. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. Denis O'Riordan (born 1941) is an Irish former hurler who played as a centre-back and full back at senior level for the Cork county team. Career Born in Ballincollig, County Cork, He started his sporting career as a minor with Ballincollig and senior with Muskerry (divisional Club). He subsequently moved to the Glen Rovers in 1958. O'Riordan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the young age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team. He made his senior debut during the 1960 championship. O'Riordan immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one Munster medal in 1966 in Limerick. This cork team went on to win the 1966 All Ireland senior hurling championship on the second Sunday of September. Mick McCarthy (Cork Hurler)
Michael McCarthy (born 1938) is an Irish former hurler who played at club level with Glen Rovers and at inter-county level with the Cork senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a full-back or centre-back. Playing career McCarthy first made an impression as a schoolboy hurler at the North Monastery, winning a Harty Cup title in 1955, before joining the Glen Rovers club. He made his first appearance with the club's senior team in 1956 and went on to win five Cork SHC titles between 1958 and 1964. McCarthy first appeared on the inter-county scene as the centre-back on the Cork minor hurling team in 1956. Such was his ability that he was also drafted onto the Cork senior hurling team that year and won a Munster Championship medal after appearing at centre-back in the opening round defeat of Waterford. Patrick "Pat" Delaney (1942 – 19 August 2013) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Johnstown, County Kilkenny, Delaney first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-six when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team, making his debut in the 1968 championship. Delaney went on to play a key part for Kilkenny in what has come to be known as one of the greatest teams of all-time, and won four All-Ireland medals, six Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. Edward Peter Keher (; born 14 October 1941) is an Irish former hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Inistioge, County Kilkenny, Keher first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team. He made his senior debut in the 1959 championship. Keher went on to play a key part for Kilkenny over several seasons, and won six All-Ireland medals, ten Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on four occasions, Keher also captained the team to All-Ireland victory in 1969.
