John O'Grady (writer)
John Patrick O'Grady, (9 October 1907 – 14 January 1981) was an Australian writer. His works include the comic novel ''They're a Weird Mob'' (1957) using the pen name Nino Culotta and the poem ''The Integrated Adjective'', sometimes known as ''Tumba-bloody-rumba''. Born to John Edward O'Grady and Margaret Gleeson. Pseudonym O'Grady chose to write under a variety of pseudonyms, most famously as Nino Culotta for his books ''They're a Weird Mob'', ''Cop This Lot'', ''Gone Fishin'' ', and ''Gone Gougin' ''. Other examples include ''No Kava For Johnny'', which is published under O'Grady's name, but contains a preface from the author claiming that the book had in fact been written by the eponymous character, Johnny. ABC1
ABC TV, formerly known as ABC1, is an Australian national public television network. It is owned and operated by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and is the flagship ABC Television network. The headquarters of the ABC TV channel and the ABC are in Ultimo, an inner-city suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. The network began operating on 5 November 1956 as the ABC National Television Service, starting in Sydney, followed by Melbourne, with other stations being established in state capitals and regional areas in the following years. In the 1960s and 1970s, the network was also referred to as ABC National Television, or ABC Television. Until the introduction of digital television in 2001, the network was the only domestic television service broadcast by the ABC. Australian Dream
The Australian Dream or Great Australian Dream is, in its narrowest sense, a belief that in Australia, home ownership can lead to a better life and is an expression of success and security. The term is derived from the American Dream, which first described the same phenomenon in the United States, starting in the 1940s. Although this standard of living is enjoyed by many in the existing Australian population, commentators have argued that rising real house prices have made it increasingly difficult to achieve the "Great Australian Dream", especially for those living in large cities and the Millennials. It is also noted as having led to urbanisation (or more specifically suburbanisation), causing extensive urban sprawl in the major cities. In contrast to the Australian Dream, some modern urban planners have emphasised "urban consolidation" and " urban sustainability". Cassell & Co is a British book publishing house, founded in 1848 by John Cassell (1817–1865), which became in the 1890s an international publishing group company. In 1995, Cassell & Co acquired Pinter Publishers. In December 1998, Cassell & Co was bought by the Orion Publishing Group. The Australian Human Rights Commission is the national human rights institution of Australia, established in 1986 as the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) and renamed in 2008. Mother And Son
''Mother and Son'' is an Australian television sitcom that was broadcast on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) from 16 January 1984 until 21 March 1994. The show stars Ruth Cracknell, Garry McDonald, Henri Szeps and Judy Morris. It featured many Australian actors of the time in guest roles. It was created and written by Geoffrey Atherden. Its theme song features the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, playing to "I Want a Girl", a jazz standard which was recorded by Al Jolson in the 1920s. A stage version of ''Mother and Son'' was written by Geoffrey Atherden and premiered at the Comedy Theatre, Melbourne on 18 July 2014.
