John O'Grady (hurler)
John O'Grady (born 14 January 1931) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Moycarkey–Borris, University College Cork and Blackrock and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career O'Grady first played hurling at club level with Moycarkey–Borris and joined the club's senior team as a 16-year-old. He also lined out with Thurles CBS in the Harty Cup and earned selection on the Munster Colleges team. As a university student in Cork, O'Grady played in the Fitzgibbon Cup with University College Cork and also earned inclusion on the Combined Universities team in 1952 and 1953. After leaving university he played with the Blackrock club in Cork, lining out in the 1954 final defeat by Glen Rovers, before ending his career with Moycarkey–Borris in 1962. Moycarkey–Borris GAA
Moycarkey–Borris GAA is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "Mid-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred on the village of Littleton but also takes in areas such as Two-Mile-Borris, Horse and Jockey, and Moycarkey. 1954 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1954 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 66th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round of the championship took place at the Cork Convention on 24 January 1954. The championship began on 28 March 1954 and ended on 26 September 1954. Glen Rovers entered the championship as the defending champions. On 26 September 1954, Glen Rovers won the championship following a 3–7 to 3–2 defeat of Blackrock in the final. This was their 15th championship title overall and their second title in succession. The 1949 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 19th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. Waterford entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Tipperary in the Munster semi-final. A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Minor Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Electric Ireland GAA Hurling All-Ireland Minor Championship) is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players under the age of 17 in Ireland and has been contested every year - except for a three-year absence during the Emergency - since 1928.
