John O'Ferrell Store
John O'Ferrell Store, also known as "Olde Store", is a historic general store located at Mongo, Springfield Township, LaGrange County, Indiana. It was built in 1832, and is a two-story, Greek Revival style frame building, with later 19th century additions. The replacement shed roofed front porch was added in the 1930s. Mongo is an unincorporated community in Springfield Township, LaGrange County, Indiana. The population in 2010 was 105. History Mongo was originally called Mongoquinong, and under the latter name was laid out in 1840. Mongoquinong was later shortened to Mongo. Although ''An Illustrated Historical Atlas of LaGrange County, Indiana'' (1874) translates the native name as 'Big Squaw Village', it is thought to be a corruption of the Miami-Illinois , meaning 'in the Loon Land'. LaGrange County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2020, the population was 40,446. The county seat is LaGrange, Indiana. The county is located in the Northern Indiana region known as Michiana and is about east of South Bend, west of Toledo, Ohio, and northeast of Indianapolis. Greek Revival Architecture
The Greek Revival was an architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. It revived many aspects of the forms and styles of ancient Greek architecture, in particular the Greek temple, with varying degrees of thoroughness and consistency. A product of Hellenism, it may be looked upon as the last phase in the development of Neoclassical architecture, which had for long mainly drawn from Roman architecture.
