John O'Donnell (born 24 June 1993) is a rugby player who plays for the Ireland national rugby sevens team. He played at representative for Ireland at the 2018 London Sevens where the team finished in third place. He represented Ireland at the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens where Ireland finished ninth. Ireland National Rugby Sevens Team
The Ireland national rugby sevens team competes in several international rugby sevens competitions. The team is governed by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU). Ireland competes as a "core team" on the World Rugby Sevens Series, a competition every year from December to June that includes ten tournaments staged around the globe. The 2019–20 season is Ireland's first season as a core team. At the 2019 Hong Kong Sevens Ireland won the World Series Qualifier tournament for the 2019–20 World Rugby Sevens Series, earning "core team" status for the first time. 2018 London Sevens
The 2018 London Sevens was the penultimate event of the 2017–18 World Rugby Sevens Series and the eighteenth edition of the London Sevens. The tournament was held at Twickenham Stadium, London on 2–3 June 2018. Fiji won the tournament by defeating South Africa 21–17 in the final. However it was Ireland who stole the show, finishing in third place in their first World Series tournament since 2004. Ireland thus became the first invitational side to reach the semi-finals and the podium of a World Rugby Sevens Series event. The 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens was the seventh edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens. Organised by World Rugby, it was held at AT&T Park, now known as Oracle Park, in San Francisco, United States. A total of 84 matches were played over three days from July 20–22, 2018. The men’s tournament had 24 teams and the women’s tournament 16, with both tournaments being played for the first time in a knock-out only format. New Zealand won the championship for both events — defeating England in the men's final and France in the women's final. Sale Sharks is a professional rugby union club from Greater Manchester, England. They play in Premiership Rugby, England's top division of rugby. Originally founded in 1861 as Sale Football Club, now a distinct amateur club, they adopted the nickname Sharks in 1999. Since 2012 they have played their home games at the A.J. Bell Stadium in Barton-upon-Irwell, Salford. Between 1905 and 2003 they played at Heywood Road in Sale, before moving to Edgeley Park in Stockport where they stayed until 2012. Lansdowne Football Club, also sometimes referred to as Lansdowne Rugby Football Club, is a rugby union team based in Dublin, Ireland. It was founded in 1872 by Henry Dunlop as the ''Irish Champion Athletic Club''. Its senior team currently plays in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League.
