John Nicolson
John MacKenzie Nicolson (born 23 June 1961) is a Scottish journalist, broadcaster and Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. Since the 2019 general election he has been the SNP Member of Parliament (MP) for Ochil and South Perthshire. He was previously the MP for East Dunbartonshire, having been elected at the 2015 general election, and defeated at the 2017 general election. He is the SNP Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, a member of the House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee and Depute Chair of the APPG on Global LGBT+ Rights. Early life John Nicolson was born in Glasgow, the son of John Donald Nicolson and Marion Nicolson. His ancestry is Hebridean and Orcadian on his father's side. John Nicolson (born London, 28 December 1891; died London, 3rd September 1951) was a British artist, etcher and illustrator for books and periodicals. John Nicolson, known as 'Jock', was an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers (A.R.E.), a member of the Royal Society of British Artists (R.B.A), and a member of the Royal Watercolour Society (R.W.S.). He worked for magazines such as '' The Bystander'' and ''Piccadilly'' and for book publishers such as T. Fisher Unwin, Thomas Nelson and Blackie and Son. He was well known for his drawings of dogs. He signed his work for books and periodicals 'Nick', typically underlined and with two small circles at either end. Nicolson and his wife Dorothy née Hildersley shared a house in south London between 1923 - 26 with the artist Edmund Blampied and his wife Marianne. John Nicolson (South African Cricketer)
John Fairless William Nicolson (born 19 July 1899 – 18 December 1935) was a South African cricketer who played in three Test matches in 1927–28. Nicolson was educated at Oxford University, where he played a lot of club cricket, but made only one first-class cricket appearance, for the university against the West Indies in 1923. But in South Africa, he became a fairly regular player for Natal for five years from 1923 to 1924 as a left-hand opening batsman. His obituary in ''The Times'' stated that he was "skilful and untiring in defence and could hit hard on the leg side". His best season was 1926–27, when he scored the only three centuries of his career. They included an unbeaten 252 against Orange Free State at Bloemfontein in which he shared a first-wicket stand of 424 with Jack Siedle. He is widely recognised for his eccentric clothing and wild hair and his production of several cutting edge drum and bass tracks.
