John Millar (born 8 December 1966) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played as a midfielder for Chelsea, Hamilton Academical, Northampton Town, Blackburn Rovers, Heart of Midlothian, Raith Rovers, Livingston and Stirling Albion. Chelsea Millar joined Chelsea from Clyde Amateurs in August 1984. A Scottish under-18 International, in his first season at Stamford Bridge he captained the Chelsea Youth Team, playing left back or midfield. He made his senior debut for Chelsea in February 1986. John Millar of Glasgow (22 June 1735 – 30 May 1801) was a Scottish philosopher, historian and Regius Professor of Civil Law at the University of Glasgow from 1761 to 1800. Biography Born a son of the manse of the Kirk o' Shotts, Shotts, Lanarkshire, John Millar was educated by an uncle and then on his father being transferred to the parish of Hamilton, at the Old Grammar School of Hamilton (renamed the Hamilton Academy in 1848.) Continuing his studies at the University of Glasgow, he became one of the most important followers of Adam Smith, the founder of economic science. For a short time in the 1750s he was tutor in the household of Henry Home, Lord Kames. In 1760 he was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates. From 1761 to 1800, Millar was Regius Professor of Civil Law at Glasgow, where his lectures gained him nationwide fame. His colleagues and supporters included Smith, Kames, and David Hume. John Millar, Lord Craighill (1817–1888) was a Scottish lawyer and judge. He served two brief terms as Solicitor General for Scotland and in 1874 was appointed a Senator of the College of Justice. Life Millar was born in 1817, the son of John Hepburn Millar, a Glasgow merchant. Millar studied at the University of Glasgow and in 1842 was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates. In 1863, he married Elizabeth Neaves, daughter of Charles Neaves, Lord Neaves, a Senator of the College of Justice and former Solicitor General for Scotland, Solicitor General. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. The dominant figure of Canadian Confederation, he had a political career that spanned almost half a century. John Millar (Canadian Politician)
John Millar (19 March 1866 – 15 May 1950) was a Progressive party and Liberal Progressive member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Woodstock, Canada West and became a farmer and teacher. Millar attended high school at Woodstock Collegiate Institute. He received a second-class teachers' certificate and became a schoolteacher in Ontario for three years and in Saskatchewan for five years. From 1901 to 1908, he was the first secretary of the Saskatchewan Grain Growers Association and in 1906 chaired the Royal Grain Commission. Millar served as reeve of Indian Head, Saskatchewan from 1910 to 1913, then as its mayor in 1914. He was first elected to Parliament under the Progressive Party banner in Qu'Appelle riding during the 1921 general election then re-elected in 1925. John Alexander Kirkpatrick Millar (born 13 November 1939), known as Sandy Millar, is a retired Anglican bishop who, on 27 November 2005, was consecrated in Kampala as an assistant bishop in the Province of Uganda, in a joint initiative of Henry Luke Orombi, Archbishop of Uganda; Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury; and Richard Chartres, Bishop of London.
