John Meyers (American Football)
John Douglas Meyers (January 16, 1940 – May 7, 1998) was an American professional football player who was a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football at the University of Washington. Early years Affectionately known as "Big John", he attended Columbia High School. In 1957, he was an All-state football player and was an All-American in basketball, that led his team to the 1958 State Basketball Championship. Meyers accepted a basketball scholarship from the University of Washington and was soon recruited by Jim Owens to play football as well. He was a two-time Rose Bowl champion. After starting two years at end, he was moved to tackle as a senior. He was the starting right tackle for the Huskies in the 49-6 Rose Bowl victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. Bob Lilly
Robert Lewis Lilly (born July 26, 1939), nicknamed "Mr. Cowboy", is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle. After playing college football for the TCU Horned Frogs, he played for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL) for fourteen seasons. Lilly was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1981. Early life Born in Olney, Texas, Lilly grew up in Throckmorton, the son of John and Margaret (Redwine) Lilly. Guy Reese (September 22, 1939 – November 22, 2010) was a professional American football defensive tackle in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Colts (1953–1983), Baltimore Colts and Atlanta Falcons.
