John McLoughlin
John McLoughlin, baptized Jean-Baptiste McLoughlin, (October 19, 1784 РSeptember 3, 1857) was a French-Canadian, later American, Chief Factor and Superintendent of the Columbia District of the Hudson's Bay Company at Fort Vancouver from 1824 to 1845. He was later known as the "Father of Oregon" for his role in assisting the American cause in the Oregon Country. In the late 1840s, his general store in Oregon City was famous as the last stop on the Oregon Trail. Early days McLoughlin was born in October 1784 in Rivi̬re-du-Loup, Quebec, and was of Scottish and French Canadian descent. He lived with his great uncle, Colonel William Fraser, for a while as a child. Though baptized Roman Catholic, he was raised Anglican. In his later life, he returned to the Roman Catholic faith. ''John McLoughlin'', also known as ''Dr. John McLoughlin'', is a bronze sculpture of John McLoughlin by Alexander Phimister Proctor and completed by his son Gifford MacGregor Proctor. One statue is installed at the Oregon State Capitol grounds in Salem, Oregon; another is installed in Washington, D.C., as part of the National Statuary Hall Collection. John McLoughlin (police Officer)
John McLoughlin (born June 6, 1953) is one of two Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police officers who survived after being trapped under the rubble of the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks. His rescue and that of William Jimeno are later the subject of Oliver Stone's film ''World Trade Center'' in 2006, in which McLoughlin was portrayed by actor Nicolas Cage. McLoughlin graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego, where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Chi fraternity. September 11, 2001 McLoughlin led a team of officers, including Jimeno, who were on the main concourse between the two towers when the South Tower collapsed. The five ran toward a nearby freight elevator, and were buried in the ensuing collapse of the concourse. Officers Antonio Rodrigues and Chris Amoroso were killed immediately. John McLoughlin (April 8, 1956 – October 24, 1990), better known by the stage name John Sex, was an American cabaret singer and performance artist in New York City from the late 1970s until his death in late 1990. Early life Sex was born on Long Island as John McLaughlin. He attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he knew Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. He often used the print studio there to create punk-style posters for downtown bands, and later for himself. He exhibited some of his word-based art at the "Beyond Words" show at the Mudd Club – alongside artists such as Haring, Kenny Scharf, and Futura 2000 and performers Iggy Pop, Fab Five Freddy and Alan Vega – and at the "New York / New Wave" exhibition at P.S. 1, both in 1981. Fort Vancouver National Historic Site is a United States National Historic Site located in the states of Washington and Oregon. The National Historic Site consists of two units, one located on the site of Fort Vancouver in modern-day Vancouver, Washington; the other being the former residence of John McLoughlin in Oregon City, Oregon. The two sites were separately given national historic designation in the 1940s. The Fort Vancouver unit was designated a National Historic Site in 1961, and was combined with the McLoughlin House into a unit in 2003. John MacLoughlin (8 September 1871 – 11 September 1943) was an Irish politician. Born in Buncrana, County Donegal to a nationalist, middle-class business family, MacLoughlin was educated at St Columb's College, Derry and University College Dublin. His business interests included media publishing. He was a member of the Free State Seanad Éireann from 1922 to 1936. He was first elected at the 1922 Seanad election as an independent candidate. He joined Cumann na nGaedheal in 1931.
