John Aloysius Maguire (1851–1920) was a Roman Catholic bishop who served as the Archbishop of Glasgow from 1902 to 1920. Biography Early life and education Born in Glasgow on 8 September 1851, he was educated successively at St Mungo's Academy and St Aloysius' College, Glasgow, at Stonyhurst College, Glasgow University, and the Collegio di Propaganda Fide, Rome. Priesthood Following his ordination to the priesthood on 27 March 1875, he became an assistant priest in St. Andrew's Pro-Cathedral, Glasgow, and Diocesan Secretary four years later. John Maguire (coadjutor Archbishop Of New York)
John Joseph Maguire (December 11, 1904 – July 6, 1989) was an American clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as auxiliary bishop (1959–1965) and coadjutor archbishop (1965–1980) in the Archdiocese of New York. Early life and education John Maguire was born in New York City to James and Ellen Marie (née Shea) Maguire. He attended Regis High School and Cathedral College in his native city, and began his studies for the priesthood at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers. Two years later he was sent by Cardinal Patrick Joseph Hayes to continue his studies at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. Priesthood On December 22, 1928, Maguire was ordained a priest by Archbishop Giuseppe Palica in the Basilica of St. John Lateran. John Norman Maguire (born 15 September 1956) is a former Australian cricketer who played in three Test matches and 23 One Day Internationals in 1983 and 1984. Career A right-arm fast-medium bower, Maguire debuted for Wynnum Manly in Queensland at 20 years and 74 days after being discovered playing Warehouse cricket. For Wynnum he played over eight seasons from 1977 to 1984, taking 96 wickets at 19.18. Maguire made his first-class cricket debut for Queensland in 1977–78 but did not hold down a regular place until 1981–82. He played his first one-day international in 1982–83, earning fame because he was called up during a Sheffield Shield game and had to be replaced by Michael Maranta. John Maguire (MP)
John Francis Maguire (1815 – 1 November 1872) was an Irish writer and politician. He was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Dungarvan in 1852. He was subsequently an MP for Cork City, serving between 1865 and his death in 1872. He wrote for his Newspaper, the Cork Examiner and wrote several books, including "The Irish in America" in 1867. He actively supported the Liberal Party's legislation on the disestablishment of the Church as well as the land question. Then in 1870, John Maguire joined the Home Rule party for Ireland. On 1 May 1872, Maguire responded to Conservative MP John Henry Scourfield, in a debate over the Women's Disabilities Removal Bill, an early women's suffrage bill. John Maguire Was an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He played for Cronulla-Sutherland, Parramatta and St George in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Subsequent to his career in football he became a teacher and principal. Background Maguire grew up in the Cronulla region and played for the Presidents Cup team before he was graded by St George as at the time Cronulla did not have a side competing in the NSWRL competition.
