John M. True
John M. True (1838–1921) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate. Biography True was born in Moultonborough, New Hampshire, in 1838. In 1866, he settled in Greenfield, Sauk County, Wisconsin. He died on February 17, 1921, in Galesburg, Illinois, and was buried in Baraboo, Wisconsin, on February 19, 1921. Career True was a member of the Assembly during the 1897 and 1899 sessions. From 1911 to 1915, he represented the Wisconsin Senate, District 27, 27th District in the Senate. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. From 1848 to 1853 there were 66 assembly districts; from 1854 to 1856, 82 districts; from 1857 to 1861, 97 districts; and from 1862 to 1972, 100 districts. The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Constitution ties the size of the State Senate to that of the Assembly, by limiting its size to no less than 1/4, nor more than 1/3, of the size of the Assembly. Sauk County is a county in Wisconsin. It is named after a large village of the Sauk people. As of the 2020 census, the population was 65,763. Its county seat and largest city is Baraboo. The county was created in 1840 from Wisconsin Territory and organized in 1844. Sauk County comprises the Baraboo, WI Micropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Madison metropolitan area. History Sauk County was a New England settlement. The original founders of Sauk County consisted entirely of settlers from New England as well as some from upstate New York who had parents who moved to that region from New England shortly after the American Revolution. The 27th Senate District of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in south-central Wisconsin, the district comprises most of western Dane County, northern Green County, eastern Iowa County, eastern Sauk County, and parts of western Columbia County.
