John M. Moore
John Matthew Moore (November 18, 1862 – February 3, 1940) was an American rancher and statesman from Texas who served in the United States House of Representatives from United States House of Representatives, Texas District 8, District 8 from 1905 to 1913. Moore was appointed Secretary of State of Texas by Governor Sul Ross on January 21, 1887 at the age of 25. He served throughout Governor Ross's term. Moore was elected a member of the Texas House of Representatives in 1896. Moore's son, John Jr., served as a two-term Mayor of Richmond, Texas and a two-term judge in Fort Bend County, Texas. John Jr.'s son, Hilmar Moore, Hilmar, was the Mayor of Richmond, and the longest-serving elected official in the United States, having served 30 terms from 1949 until Moore's death on December 4, 2012. Texas's 8th Congressional District
Texas's 8th congressional district of the United States House of Representatives includes parts of Montgomery County, Walker County, Harris County, Polk County, and all of San Jacinto County. It includes much of the northern outlying areas of metro Houston, including Conroe, Magnolia, and most of Lake Livingston. Hilmar Moore
Hilmar Guenther Moore (July 28, 1920 – December 4, 2012) was an American rancher and long-time Mayor of Richmond, Texas, Richmond, Texas. Biography Hilmar Moore was a cattleman and a fifth-generation Texan, the grandson of Texas Secretary of State John M. Moore. Moore's father John Moore Jr. served also as Mayor of Richmond. Moore served in World War II. Moore was married to Evalyn Wendt Moore, who succeeded him as mayor. Mayor of Richmond Moore was first elected as the Mayor of Richmond in 1949 and remained in office until his death in 2012, making him "probably the longest-serving elected official in the United States, US," according to a 2008 BBC News report, though even as late as 2012 Richmond only described him as the longest serving Mayor in Texas, and the second in the US. Arthur Tompkins (Texas Politician)
Arthur Sidney Tompkins (August 26, 1865 – January 20, 1938) was a U.S. Representative from New York, and a justice of the New York Supreme Court. Early life Born in Middleburgh, New York, Tompkins moved with his parents to West Nyack, New York, in 1866. He attended the public schools of Clarkstown and Nyack until 1878. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1886 and commenced practice in Nyack, New York. He was police justice of Nyack, New York, from 1887 to 1889. Political career Tompkins was elected chairman of the Rockland County Republican committee in 1888. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Rockland Co.) in 1890. He was a delegate to all Republican State conventions from 1888 to 1906, and as delegate or alternate to all Republican National Conventions from 1888 to 1900.
