John Holden (Australian Politician)
John Rose Holden (22 February 1810 – 1 May 1860) was an English-Australian politician. Holden was born at Beaminster in Dorset to the Reverend William Rose Holden and Betty Everleigh. In 1829 he joined the army, and in 1831 was posted to New South Wales. He acquired a farm near Liverpool. He left the army in 1834, and on 7 April 1834 married Mary Hutchinson, with whom he had three children. From 1843 he was a director of the Bank of New South Wales, rising to vice-president in 1846 and president in 1851. From 1842 to 1846 he was a member of Sydney City Council. He was an elected member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1851 to 1853 and an appointed member from 1853 to 1856. He later retired to England, where he lived with his second wife, Susan Broadhurst. John Rose Holden
John Rose Holden (sometimes called Rose-Holden) (27 September 1821 – 25 February 1879) was a Canadian politician and lawyer. He was mayor of Hamilton, Canada West in 1851. Born in Daventry, Northamptonshire, England, John Rose Holden was the son of a wealthy Church of England clergyman. Little is known of his early life, but he is believed to have come to Canada at an early age. He was well educated in both English and French, and studied law with Judge Campbell at Niagara, Upper Canada. After being called to the bar, he entered a partnership with Richard Oliver Duggan (for whom Whitehern was built) in Hamilton, enjoying a lucrative practice. He was married to Mary Emily Roach and had two sons and three daughters. Holden served on the city council for many years. John Holden was a missionary Anglican bishop. Biography He was born in 1882 and educated at Durham University “Who was Who” 1897–1990 London, A & C Black 1991 He was ordained in 1907 and went to work for the Church Missionary Society in China, becoming in time an archdeacon. In 1923 he became Bishop of Kwangsi-Hunan and was translated to Szechwan (Diocese of Western China) in 1933 and later to Western Szechwan. Returning to England in 1938 he became an Assistant Bishop of Truro (until death), Vicar of St Budock (until 1944), a Canon Residentiary of Truro Cathedral (1944–1947) and then Archdeacon of Cornwall. John Holden (born 1942) studied at Medway College of Art & Design (1959–63) and the Royal Academy Schools London (1963–66). His work is held in public and private collections worldwide. He was Head of Fine Art at John Moores University until his retirement in July 2000. (award a sabbatical from John Moores University in 1998). John Holden (British Army Officer)
Major-General John Reid Holden, (1913–1995) was a British Army officer. Military career Holden was commissioned into the Royal Tank Corps in 1937. He saw action in the Middle East Campaign during the Second World War for which he was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order. After the war he became Chief of British Mission to Soviet Forces in Europe in October 1961, Director of the Royal Armoured Corps in January 1965 and General Officer Commanding 43rd (Wessex) Division/District in February 1963 before retiring in December 1964. Andy Holden (athlete)
John Andrew Holden (22 October 1948 – 4 January 2014) was an English long distance runner whose athletic career peaked in the 1970s. His strongest event was the 3000 m steeplechase, a discipline at which he represented his country in the 1972 Summer Olympics. Holden's best performance in the steeplechase was 8:26.4 in September 1972, setting a British record. His time was still in the national all-time top 20 at the time of his death 42 years later. After his track career ended, Holden switched to road racing, where he continued to race in the veteran categories for many years. His best of 28:29 for the 10 km road race is a British record for over-35s. Jon Robert "J.R." Holden (russian: Джон Ро́берт Хо́лден; born August 10, 1976) is a retired American-Russian professional basketball player, currently serving as an NBA Director of Player Personnel for the Brooklyn Nets. Holden was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At 1.85 m (6'1") tall, he could play at both the point guard and shooting guard positions, but he primarily played at point guard. As a member of CSKA Moscow, Holden won two EuroLeague titles, in 2006 and 2008. Moreover, he reached eight consecutive EuroLeague Final Four tournaments, a record he shares with his former CSKA teammate, Theo Papaloukas.
