Sir John Henderson FRSE FSA (8 January 1752 – 12 December 1817), fifth of the Henderson baronets of Fordell Castle, Fordell, Fife, was a Scotland, Scottish nobleman and politician. He trained as a lawyer and was also a competent antiquary. Ancestry The Hendersons were an ancient Scottish family; James Henderson, who served as Lord Advocate of Scotland and died at Flodden Field in 1513, was called the first "Laird of Fordell". Fordell Castle was built in 1567, but it was built on the site of a previous structure. John Henderson (d. 1683) was created a baronet in 1664. The Hendersons' considerable wealth came from coalpits on their estates. Life Sir John Henderson was the son of Robert Henderson (d. 1781), the 4th baronet. He was educated at St. Andrews, University of St Andrews and Christ Church, Oxford. Jon Elliott Henderson (born December 17, 1944) is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins. He also played one season in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Calgary Stampeders and helped them to win the Grey Cup in 1971. Henderson played college football for the Colorado State Rams and was selected in the third round of the 1968 NFL/AFL draft. He served as the Steelers primary kick returner in 1968, returning 29 kicks for 589 yards but played sparingly on offense. John Henderson (1747–1785) was an English actor who played many Shakespearean and other roles. He first acted in Bath, where he was known as "The Bath Roscius", and then in London. Had he not died young he would have been remembered as a worthy successor to David Garrick. Early life and education Henderson was born in Goldsmith Street, Cheapside, London, and was baptized on 8 March 1747. His father, an Irish factor, died when he was an infant and he and his elder brother were brought up and educated by their mother in Newport Pagnell. He always remembered his obligation to her and cared for her in later life. Henderson was introduced to literature, including Shakespeare, and encouraged to learn passages by heart. John Henderson (born 4 May 1973) is a Scottish darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is the reigning World Seniors Matchplay and World Seniors Masters champion, as well as the 2024 World Seniors Darts Championship winner. John Henderson (hurler)
John Henderson (born 14 October 1957) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a corner-back and as a full-back for the Kilkenny and Wicklow senior teams. Born in Johnstown, County Kilkenny, Henderson first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Coláiste Mhuire. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1979 championship. Henderson immediately became a regular member of the team and won three All-Ireland medals, six Leinster medals and four National Hurling League medals. John Henderson (born 31 August 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the VFL. Henderson played mostly as a centreman but was originally a half back. He was a premiership player with Collingwood in 1958 and a Victorian interstate representative. Although he never won a best and fairest he was Collingwood's top vote getter in the 1963 Brownlow Medal count, finishing 4th in the league. He was appointed captain of Collingwood for the 1965 season. John Duncan Henderson (March 25, 1933 – October 4, 2024) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. Career Henderson played 46 games for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League between 1954 and 1956. The rest of his career lasted from 1953 to 1961, and again from 1965 to 1970, was spent in various minor leagues. With the Whitby Dunlops he won the 1957 and 1959 Allan Cup, the senior championship of Canada.
