John Hanlon (record Producer)
John Hanlon is an American record producer and recording engineer. Career He is best known for producing, engineering, and mixing albums for Neil Young, Stephen Stills, T-Bone Burnett, R.E.M, Gillian Welch, Dennis Wilson, and The Beach Boys. Work with Neil Young His relationship with Neil Young started in 1983, when he and David Briggs, Young's longtime producer, were working on ''Trans'' remixes. Hanlon joined Briggs again in 1990, engineering and mixing Neil Young and Crazy Horse's album '' Ragged Glory''. He has been working with Young ever since. Recording style In an October 2012 interview with ''Mix'' magazine, John Hanlon described his recording style: "To me, some of the greatest records are the ones done with the fewest amount of microphones. ''Roadsinger'' is the thirteenth studio album by Yusuf (formerly known as Yusuf Islam and as Cat Stevens). ''Roadsinger'' is Yusuf's second mainstream release since his return to music. It was released in the US by reissue label Hip-O Records and is catalogued under A&M Records. Paul Hayden Desser (born February 12, 1971) who records as Hayden, is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Thornhill, Ontario. His early works are a largely eclectic mix of genres from grunge to alternative country, as demonstrated by his first full album, '' Everything I Long For'', released in 1995. Since then his work has become progressively more refined. Robyn Rowan Hitchcock (born 3 March 1953) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. While primarily a vocalist and guitarist, he also plays harmonica, piano, and bass guitar. After leading the Soft Boys in the late 1970s and releasing the influential ''Underwater Moonlight'', Hitchcock launched a prolific solo career. His musical and lyrical styles have been influenced by Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Syd Barrett, Captain Beefheart, Martin Carthy, Lou Reed, Roger McGuinn and Bryan Ferry. ''Storefront Hitchcock'' is a 1998 American concert film featuring Robyn Hitchcock and directed by Jonathan Demme. It was conceived as "a document not a documentary", and the performance was shot in New York City in December 1996, in an abandoned used clothing store on 14th street. Over the course of the performance, simple props and set pieces are varied, such as a bare lightbulb and a tomato sculpture, and occasionally a passerby on the street glances in. Jonathan Demme met Hitchcock after Demme attended a live show, and offered to direct a live performance video for a song, which was then revised to be a full concert. Demme was inspired to film in the storefront setting by a Hungarian theatre group, Squat Theatre, who operated in New York City in the 70s and 80s and typically performed in a storefront against a large plate glass window facing the street. Those Bastard Souls
Those Bastard Souls were an independent rock band formed in 1995 as a solo side project by David Shouse of The Grifters. The name, somewhat of a nod to These Immortal Souls, was one that David Shouse coined as a replacement for A Band Called Bud, the original name of the Grifters. Shouse liked the name and held onto it, imagining a rotating roster of transient "bastard musicians" that would comprise a musical project that he might lead sometime in the future. While recording the Grifters' first album for Sub Pop, ''Ain't My Lookout'', Shouse was approached by someone from Darla Records with some DAT tapes and told that they would put out a solo album for him if he were interested. While the recording of "Ain't My Lookout" was pleasurable, Shouse, the eldest Grifter by almost a decade, was finding himself increasingly frustrated with the lyrics that he wrote for that band; finding them too abstract and not personal enough for where he found himself personally.
