John Gunne (Manitoba Politician)
John Robert Gunne (February 21, 1870 – June 5, 1935) was a physician and political figure in Manitoba. He represented Dauphin from 1903 to 1907 in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as a Conservative. He was born in Florence, Lambton County, Ontario, the son of Robert Gunne, a native of Ireland. Gunne was educated there and at Manitoba Medical College. He moved to Dauphin, Manitoba in 1893, setting up practice there. In 1903, he married Christina Malcolm. Dauphin (provincial Electoral District)
Dauphin is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally created in 1881 with the expansion of the province's western boundary, eliminated in 1886, re-established in 1892, and finally abolished in 1999. Most of its territory went to the new riding of Dauphin-Roblin, though a small amount went to the riding of Swan River. Dauphin-Roblin was largely replaced by a new Dauphin riding in the 2008 redistribution, expanding to include Ste. Rose du Lac. Lambton County is a county in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is bordered on the north by Lake Huron, which is drained by the St. Clair River, the county's western border and part of the Canada-United States border. The Max Rady College of Medicine is a medical college of the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and is one of several departments of the University's Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. Opening in 1883 as the Manitoba Medical College, it is the first medical school of the Prairie provinces. Dauphin () is a city in Manitoba, Canada, with a population of 8,457 as of the 2016 Canadian Census, with an additional 2,388 living in the surrounding Rural Municipality of Dauphin (RM), for a total of 10,845 in the RM and city combined. Kenora, Ontario
Kenora (), previously named Rat Portage (french: Portage-aux-Rats), is a city situated on the Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, close to the Manitoba boundary, and about east of Winnipeg by road. It is the seat of Kenora District. The history of the name extends beyond the time of white settlers arriving in the region. The name Rat Portage had its origin in the Ojibwa name Waszush Onigum, which roughly translated, means portage to the country of the muskrats. A shortened and somewhat corrupted version, Rat Portage, was adopted by the Hudson’s Bay Company in naming their post, then located on Old Fort Island on the Winnipeg River.
