John Fletcher (American Football)
John Hamilton Fletcher, Sr. (March 31, 1901 - June 4, 1977) was a college football player. College Football Fletcher was a prominent fullback for the Georgia Bulldogs of the University of Georgia, selected All-Southern in 1922. Walter Camp gave him honorable mention on his All-America team. In the game against Tennessee in 1923, one account reads "he rammed the ball almost the entire length of the field on two occasions." He was elected captain of the 1924 team, but went down with injury and had his place at captain filled by tackle Jim Taylor. Fullback (American Football)
A fullback (FB) is a position in the offensive backfield in gridiron football, and is one of the two running back positions along with the halfback. Fullbacks are typically larger than halfbacks and in most offensive schemes the fullback's duties are split among power running, pass catching, and blocking for both the quarterback and the other running back. Many great runners in the history of American football have been fullbacks, including Jim Brown, Marion Motley, Bronko Nagurski, Jim Taylor, Franco Harris, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, Christian Okoye, and Levi Jackson. 1924 Georgia Bulldogs Football Team
The 1924 Georgia Bulldogs football team represented the Georgia Bulldogs of the University of Georgia during the 1924 Southern Conference football season. In the team's second season under head coach George Cecil Woodruff, the Bulldogs completed the season with a record of 7–3–0. It included a narrow 7–6 loss to football powerhouse Yale. The other losses in the season came in the last two games against Southern Conference (SoCon) champion Alabama and Southern champion Centre. Six of the seven wins in the season were shutouts. The season was also notable for the victory over Vanderbilt by a single Scrappy Moore drop kick,' in which All-American Vanderbilt end Lynn Bomar also suffered his career ending injury. Moore's field goal was the last made by a Bulldog until seventeen years later when Frank Sinkwich did so against Florida with a broken jaw in 1941. Alpha Tau Omega (), commonly known as ATO, is an American social fraternity founded at the Virginia Military Institute in 1865 by Otis Allan Glazebrook. The fraternity has around 250 active and inactive chapters and colonies in the United States and has initiated more than 229,000 members. VMI Cadets are no longer associated with the fraternity. In 1885, the VMI Board of Visitors ruled that cadets could no longer join fraternities based on the belief that allegiance to a fraternal group undermined the cohesiveness of and loyalty to the Corps of Cadets. Tifton is a city in Tift County, Georgia, United States. The population was 17,045 at the 2020 census. The city is the county seat of Tift County.
