John Easton
John Easton (1624–1705) was a political leader in the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, devoting decades to public service before eventually becoming governor of the colony. Born in Hampshire, England, he sailed to New England with his widowed father and older brother, settling in Ipswich and Newbury in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. As a supporter of the dissident ministers John Wheelwright and Anne Hutchinson during the Antinomian Controversy, his father was exiled, and settled in Portsmouth on Aquidneck Island (later called Rhode Island) with many other Hutchinson supporters. Here there was discord among the leaders of the settlement, and his father followed William Coddington to the south end of the island where they established the town of Newport. The younger Easton remained in Newport the remainder of his life, where he became involved in civil affairs before the age of 30. John Easton (philatelist)
John Easton (16 February 1895Bateman, Robert. ''Stamp Collectors' Who's Who''. London: Stanley Gibbons Ltd., 1960, p.32. – 1967) was a printer and philatelic author who signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1960. Works Easton wrote ''The De La Rue History of British and Foreign Postage Stamps 1855-1901'' for which he received the Crawford Medal from the Royal Philatelic Society London in 1958, and with Arnold M. Strange he edited ''Perkins Bacon Records'' based on the work of Percy de Worms. The London printing works of De La Rue were destroyed on the night of 29 December 1940 during a World War II air raid. The Day Books and Correspondence Books of the firm survived however and after the war the Royal Philatelic Society London was granted access to the records in order to compile a philatelic history of the first fifty years of De La Rue. John Easton (baseball)
John David Easton (March 4, 1933 – July 28, 2001) was an American professional baseball player. He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies after graduating from Princeton University and appeared in four Major League Baseball (MLB) games — one as a pinch runner in and three as a pinch hitter in — all for the Phillies. Easton went hitless in three at bats and failed to score a run as a baserunner. He threw and batted right-handed, standing tall and weighing , during his playing days. Easton graduated from Trenton Central High School and was a member of Princeton's Class of 1955. He also played varsity basketball for the Tigers and captained their baseball team. Easton made his MLB debut only days after signing his first pro contract, pinch running for veteran catcher Andy Seminick in the second inning of the first game of a doubleheader, against the Chicago Cubs, at Wrigley Field.
