John E. Smith (New York Politician)
John E. Smith (August 4, 1843 Nelson, Madison County, New York – 1907) was an American politician from New York. Life Smith attended the district schools and Cazenovia Seminary, graduated from Albany Law School in 1867, was admitted to the bar the same year, and practiced in Morrisville. Smith was district attorney of Madison County from 1878 to 1880, and in 1882; a member of the New York State Senate (23rd D.) in 1886 and 1887; and assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York from July 1889 to July 1891. Nelson, New York
Nelson is a town in Madison County, New York, United States. It is an interior town, located in the southwestern part of the county. The population was 1,980 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Horatio Nelson, the English naval hero. History The town was formed in 1807 from the Town of Cazenovia, the year after Madison County was established. The Nelson Welsh Congregational Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Geography US Route 20 passes across the town. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and (2.11%) is water. Andrew Davidson (New York)
Andrew Davidson (February 12, 1840 – November 10, 1902) was a Scottish soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Davidson received the United States' highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of the Crater in Petersburg, Virginia on 30 July 1864. He was honored with the award on 17 October 1892. Biography Davidson was born in Morebattle, Scotland on 12 February 1840. He enlisted with the 121st New York Infantry on 23 August 1862. He was promoted to regimental Sergeant Major He was transferred to the 30th U.S. Colored Troops on 18 March 1864, where he was promoted to first lieutenant and later regimental adjutant on May 1, 1864. It was in this capacity that he performed the act of gallantry on 30 July 1864 that later earned him the Medal of Honor. The Henry J is an American automobile built by the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation and named after its chairman, Henry J. Kaiser. Production of six-cylinder models began in their Willow Run factory in Michigan on July 1950, and four-cylinder production started shortly after Labor Day, 1950. The official public introduction was on September 28, 1950. The car was marketed through 1954. Development The Henry J was the idea of Henry J. Kaiser, who sought to increase sales of his Kaiser automotive line by adding a car that could be built inexpensively and thus affordable for the average American in the same vein that Henry Ford produced the Model T. The goal was to attract "less affluent buyers who could only afford a used car" and the attempt became a pioneering American compact car.
