John Dunn (university President)
John M. Dunn (born October 3, 1945) was the eighth president of Western Michigan University. Dunn earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern Illinois University, and he earned an Ed.D. in physical education from Brigham Young University. He began his career in higher education at the University of Connecticut in 1972. He moved to Oregon State University in 1975 and spent the next 20 years there, starting out as an assistant professor of health. He was a professor and associate provost at the time he left in 1995. During his time in Oregon, Dunn also served on the Corvallis School Board for 13 years. Dunn served as the dean of the College of Health at the University of Utah from 1995 to 2002. Western Michigan University
Western Michigan University (Western Michigan, Western or WMU) is a public research university in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was initially established as Western State Normal School in 1903 by Governor Aaron T. Bliss for the training of teachers. In 1957, G. Mennen Williams signed a bill into law that made Western a university and gave the school its current name of Western Michigan University. Western is one of the eight research universities in the State of Michigan and is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity". The university has seven degree-granting colleges, offering 147 undergraduate degree programs, 73 master's degree programs, 30 doctoral programs, and one specialist degree program. Diether Haenicke
Diether H. Haenicke (May 19, 1935 – February 15, 2009) was president of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan from 1985 to 1998, and again (as interim president) from 2006 to 2007. A large building on campus, Haenicke Hall, is named for him. In 1962, Haenicke received his doctorate, magna cum laude, from the University of Munich. In 1998, Haenicke stepped down from the presidency, but continued to teach foreign languages until 2004. On August 15, 2006, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees voted to fire then-president Judith Bailey (academic), Judith Bailey, and unanimously voted to appoint Haenicke as interim president. He served as interim president from September 2006 until July 2007, when John Dunn (university president), John Dunn assumed the university presidency.
