John Dougherty (author)
John Dougherty is a Northern Irish children's writer, born in the town of Larne in 1964. He now lives in Gloucestershire. He worked as a primary school teacher in London during the 1990s and early 2000s; during this period, he began to write stories for children. His first book was published in 2004 and he left teaching the same year to concentrate on his writing career. From November 2013 – 2015, he was chair of the Children's Writers and Illustrators Group (CWIG), a sub-group of the UK's Society of Authors. John Dougherty is an American freelance investigative journalist. Subjects he has reported on include: the Keating Five scandal and the Savings and loan crisis, S&L crisis, Arizona Governor Fife Symington III, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, FLDS Church and its leader Warren Jeffs, and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. In 2010, he ran as a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Arizona. Early life and education Dougherty was raised in Fairfax, Virginia. He attended Arizona State University from 1974 to 1981. John Dougherty (Missouri Politician)
John Dougherty (February 25, 1857 – August 1, 1905) was a U.S. Representative from Missouri. Born in Iatan, Missouri, Dougherty moved with his parents the same year to Liberty, Missouri. He attended the public schools and William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo,. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1889 and commenced practice at Liberty, Missouri. Dougherty was elected city attorney of Liberty, Missouri, in 1881 and served five years. He was editor and proprietor of the Liberty Tribune 1885–1888. Dougherty was elected prosecuting attorney of Clay County, Missouri, in 1888 and served six years. He was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination in 1896 to the Fifty-fifth Congress. Dougherty was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth, Fifty-seventh, and Fifty-eighth Congresses (March 4, 1899 – March 3, 1905). He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1904. John Dougherty (May 6, 1806 – September 7, 1879) was an American politician from Ohio. After a stint mining and teaching, Dougherty became an understudy of Alexander Pope Field and was admitted to the bar. He served several terms in both the Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate over the next twenty years. In 1868, he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. John Martin Dougherty (April 29, 1932 – April 16, 2022) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Dougherty served as the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Scranton in Pennsylvania from 1995 to 2009. Early life John Dougherty was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Edward and Irene (née Kern) Dougherty. After graduating from St. Paul High School in 1949, he entered St. Charles College in Catonsville, Maryland. In 1951, Dougherty became a seminarian at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1953. In 1956, he was awarded a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Notre Dame, then in 1957 a Licentiate of Sacred Theology from St. Mary's. John Joseph Dougherty (September 16, 1907 – March 20, 1986) was a bishop of the Catholic Church in the United States. He served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark from 1963 to 1982. He was president of Seton Hall University from 1959 to 1969. Biography Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, John Dougherty was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Newark on July 23, 1933.
