John Dennis (Missouri Politician)
John Clint Dennis (July 31, 1917 – February 15, 2000) was an American politician from the state of Missouri. Born in Patton, Missouri, he was sheriff of Scott County, Missouri from 1951 until 1976. In 1963, he was elected president of the Missouri Sheriffs' Association. He later served as a Democrat in the Missouri state senate from 1976 until 1992. He served as a marine during World War II. Patton is an unincorporated community in the southeastern part of Union Township in northern Bollinger County in Southeast Missouri, United States. It is located on State Highway 51, approximately one mile south of the intersection with Route 72 (referred to as Patton Junction) along Little Whitewater Creek and 15 miles north of Marble Hill. Scott County is a county located in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,059. Its county seat is Benton. The county was organized in 1821 and named for U.S. Representative John Scott, the first federal representative from Missouri. The Missouri Senate is the upper chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 34 members, representing districts with an average population of 174,000. Its members serve four-year terms, with half the seats being up for election every two years.
