John Davison (priest)
John Davison (1777–1834) was an English clergyman and academic, known as a theological writer. Life He was born at Morpeth, Northumberland, Morpeth, where his father was a schoolmaster, but brought up in Durham, England, Durham. He was educated at Durham cathedral school, and in 1794 entered Christ Church, Oxford. There he obtained a Craven scholarship in 1796, and was elected Fellow of Oriel College in 1800. In 1810 he became one of the tutors of Oriel. In 1817 Davison was presented by Lord Liverpool to the vicarage of Sutterton, near Boston, Lincolnshire. Subsequent preferment was to the rectory of Washington, Durham, in 1818, and in 1826 to that of Upton-upon-Severn. For a few years he held the prebend of Sneating in St Paul's Cathedral, and in 1826, on the recommendation of Lord Liverpool, he was made a prebendary of Worcester Cathedral. Davison died 6 May 1834 at Cheltenham, where he had gone for his health. He was buried in the chancel of Worcester Cathedral. Views In rel ... John Robert Davison
The Right Honourable John Robert Davison MP, QC (7 April 1825 – 15 April 1871) was an English barrister and Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1868 to 1871. Davison was the son of the Rev. Edward Davison, Rector of Harlington, Middlesex, and Vicar of St. Nicholas Church, Durham. He was educated at Durham School, and at the University of Durham, graduating with his M.A. in 1849. He was called to the bar at the Middle Temple in 1849, and went on the Northern Circuit. In 1866 he was made a Queen's Counsel. He was a J.P. and chairman of the Quarter Sessions for County Durham. At the 1868 general election Davison was elected Member of Parliament for City of Durham. He was appointed Judge Advocate General on 28 December 1870 and ran unopposed in the January 1871 Durham City by-election. He held the seat until his death on 15 April 1871. John Emanuel Davison (28 November 1870 – 2 March 1927) was a Labour Party (UK), Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom who served as a Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) from 1918 to 1926. Davison was born in Smethwick, but grew up in Sheffield. He had a number of short-term jobs before completing an apprenticeship in iron founding, and joining the Friendly Society of Iron Founders (FSIF). John Clarke Davison (19 April 1875 – 19 February 1946) was a barrister and Unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Davison was educated at Coleraine Academical Institution and Trinity College, Dublin and was called to the Irish Bar in 1898. He was a legal adviser to the Government of Northern Ireland from 1922–1925, and Senior Crown Prosecutor for County Louth and County Antrim. John H. Davison (31 May 1930 – 5 March 1999) was an American composer and pianist. Life and career Born in Istanbul, Turkey, he grew up in Upstate New York and in New York City, and studied music at the Juilliard School's lower school, Haverford College, then received his master's degree from Harvard University, where he focused on Renaissance music, particularly the works of Orlando Gibbons. He earned his doctorate in creative composition from the Eastman School of Music. His teachers included Alfred Swan, Randall Thompson, Walter Piston, Bernard Rogers, Howard Hanson, Alan Hovhaness, and Robert Palmer. Jon Davison (born 1949 in Bexley, England) was Dean and the first Professor of Teacher Education in the Institute of Education, University of London. He holds degrees from the universities of Exeter and London. He taught in London schools for seventeen years, before becoming a teacher educator in 1992. For the past twenty-five years his work has been published by Routledge, Taylor and Francis.
