John Davis (pitcher, Born 1883)
John Barton Davis (July 13, 1883 – October 7, 1946) was a Negro leagues pitcher for several years before the founding of the first Negro National League. A 1907 St. Paul newspaper paper noted that Davis and fellow St. Paul Colored Gophers pitcher Clarence Lytle both had No-hitter games to their credit. During World War I, when Davis registered for selective service and the draft, he listed he was working for International Harvester The International Harvester Company (often abbreviated by IHC, IH, or simply International ( colloq.)) was an American manufacturer of agricultural and construction equipment, automobiles, commercial trucks, lawn and garden products, household e ... as a "dirt shaper" operator (which may have been a road grader). It also listed that he was married to Lizzie Davis. Davis died in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1946 at the age of 63. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. Clarence Lytle
Clarence Lester "Dude" Lytle (December 22, 1879 - March 4, 1937) was an American baseball pitcher in the pre-Negro leagues. He played from 1901 to 1911 with various teams. He played mostly with the Chicago Union Giants. In 1907, Lytle signed with the new St. Paul Colored Gophers team. The International Harvester Company (often abbreviated by IHC, IH, or simply International ( colloq.)) was an American manufacturer of agricultural and construction equipment, automobiles, commercial trucks, lawn and garden products, household equipment, and more. It was formed from the 1902 merger of McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company and three smaller manufactures: Milwaukee; Plano; and Warder, Bushnell, and Glessner (manufacturers of Champion brand).
