John Cronin (horticulturist)
John Cronin (born 1865) was an Australian botanist and horticulturist active in Victoria. He directed the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne until his death. Career Born in 1865 in Clune, Cronin began working as a miner in the area, before relocating to Melbourne in 1886 where he found a job at the Royal Botanic Gardens. His mentor at the Botanic Gardens was W. R. Guilfoyle. After ten years with Guilfoyle, Cronin was hired by the Department of Agriculture as an orchid inspector. In 1908, he took over Charles Luffman as Principal of the Burnley Horticultural College, Richmond in 1908. During his two-year term, Cronin focused on pruning and hybridisation. John Michael Cronin MNZM is a New Zealand politician. he is the chairperson of the Bay of Plenty regional council, one of four councillors elected by the city of Tauranga. Previously, he has sought election to Parliament — in the , he was the National Party's candidate to win the electorate back from former National MP Winston Peters, and in the , he led the small Superannuitants and Youth Action party and stood in the electorate. He was not successful in either attempt. John Desmond Cronin (1 March 1916 – 3 January 1986) was a British surgeon and Labour Party politician. Early life and education He was born in Simla, British India (since 1947 known as Shimla), the summer capital of India in the days of the British Raj. The family, like many others living in India at the time, had moved there to escape the heat and disease of India's lower altitudes during the summer months. His father, John Patrick Cronin (1889–1952), a director of Lever Brothers, was Lord Leverhulme's representative in India and later Chairman of Horlicks, Australia. Cronin spent the first three years of his life in India until the family returned to their home in Hornsey Lane, Highgate, London in 1919. In 1929, the family moved to Woodside Park near Totteridge in North East Finchley. John Cronin (born 18 July 1971) is a repeat-offence Scottish convict. Imprisoned for running up a 140,000 kronor (US$20,500) bill in one of Sweden's top restaurants and then refusing to pay, Cronin is infamous for a string of sex offences against women, most notably against "Judy X", a Conservative Party worker, in May 1992. On 20 March 2013 at Antrim Crown Court, Cronin pleaded guilty to the burglary of Drumalis House (a Retreat and Conference Centre in Antrim) on 15 February 2012 and the theft of money belonging to the Church. Cronin is also the centre of current debate in Scotland over the reporting and handling of sex offenders and how they are dealt with once out of prison. John Francis Cronin (1908–1994) was a Catholic priest of the Society of Saint Sulpice, who was an early advisor on anticommunism to freshman U.S. Representative Richard M. Nixon. Early life He was born October 4, 1908, in Glens Falls, New York. He graduated at the age of fourteen from St. Mary's Academy. An essay that discussed the dangers faced by coal miners was published in the Glens Falls ''Post Star''. He attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and seminary at the Sulpician seminary of the Catholic University of America, where he earned bachelor's degrees in philosophy and sacred theology, and a master's degree in philosophy.
