John Coleman (Australian Politician)
John William Coleman (11 June 1862 – 8 January 1905) was an Australian politician. He was born near Lismore to sawyer Edmund Coleman and Charlotte Downs. He attended the local public school before becoming a storekeeper. In 1882 he married Elizabeth Rachel Marshall Ventnam; they had four children. He served as a Lismore alderman from 1890 to 1892, from 1893 to 1896 and from 1900 to 1901. In 1901 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as an independent Liberal, representing the seat of Lismore. He was elected for Rous as an endorsed Liberal in 1904, but died in January 1905 at Marrickville. Lismore is a city in northeastern New South Wales, Australia and the main population centre in the City of Lismore Local government in Australia, local government area; it is also a regional centre in the Northern Rivers region of the State. It is situated on a low flood plain on the banks of the Wilsons River (New South Wales), Wilsons River near the latter's junction with Leycester Creek, both tributaries of the Richmond River which enters the Pacific Ocean at Ballina, New South Wales, Ballina, to the east. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. The Liberal Reform Party was an Australian political party, active in New South Wales state politics between 1901 and 1916. It drew much of its support from Protestant and Temperance groups. History The question of tariff policy which, had created and divided the Free Trade Party and Protectionist Party in New South Wales in the 1890s, became a federal issue at the time of federation. Deprived of their main ideological difference, the two parties were recreated as the Liberal Reform Party, aligned with the federal Free Trade Party, and the Progressive Party, aligned with the federal Protectionist Party. The Progressive Party's vote collapsed at the 1904 election and many of its members then joined the Liberal Reform Party. Thomas Ewing (Australian Politician)
Sir Thomas Thomson Ewing KCMG (9 October 185615 September 1920) was an Australian politician. He began his career in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly (1885–1901) before winning election to the Division of Richmond at the inaugural 1901 federal election. He held ministerial office in the second Deakin Government as Vice-President of the Executive Council (1905–1906), Minister for Home Affairs (1906–1907), and Minister for Defence (1907–1908). George Hindmarsh
George Thomas Hindmarsh (26 June 1861 – 16 June 1916) was an Australian politician. He was born in Gerringong to dairy farmer George John Hindmarsh and Jane Potter. He attended Toolejooa Public School and, after unsuccessfully studying surveying, began dairy farming near Clunes. On 14 October 1886 he married Isabel Mary Barrie; they had ten children. In 1890 he moved to Lismore, where he became an auctioneer and stock agent.
